Shackerstone Family Festival is situated
close to the Leicestershire, Warwickshire border. It offers a two days of
events on the first weekend (3th and 4th) of September.
In recent years the Steam and Canal Festival has taken over the village of
Shackerestone for one weekend. This event is run by the villagers of
Shackerstone, the Shackerstone Railway Society and the Ashby Canal
Association. The money raised from the show is jointly split between the
three groups and a donation toward charity.
The main area is the field located close to both the village, canal and
railway station. The field includes the arena, craft tent, beer tent, trade stands and the
majority of the vehicle, machinery and other displays.
In previous years the main arena has been home to many different displays
throughout the weekend. Marching bands, historical battle re-enactments,
stunt men, vehicle parades, parachutists, TA heavy equipment demonstrations
and even cow-pat lotteries (surreal, but true!).
There are a selection of vintage canal barges on display and traction
engines can be seen working on the station car park with the occasional trip
to the local pubs to refuel the drivers'. ...and of course the is also
the opportunity to ride on the railway during the day.
There is truly something to appeal to nearly everyone at this event.
