We have had the cobb for over a year and love it, we decided to buy a ghillie kettle and it is fantastic. It fits on the cobb nicely and we get 2 ltr of boiling water as the cobb heats up
The Ghillie boils water quicker than our kettle in the house and is made in the uk.
I have a Kelly kettle which looks the same and it's a brilliant bit of kit.
If we go out for days, we often pop it in the car with a bottle of water and a small bag of kindling, so we can brew up wherever we fancy. I reckon it's paid for itself in savings in camping gas and teas and coffees when out.
I have a Kelly Kettle, same thing just a different make. I take it on days out as well. We often get questions from passers by when using it, but when I tell the the price it puts them off a bit, but I use mine for camping as well, so no problem. Love It.
------------- Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
Quote: They have been made since the early 1900's but have never really caught on.
They are used all over the world, extensively in some places.
I lost mine, love using it to make fresh coffee, but plan to replace it later this year. Trouble is they seem to have become really expensive! Is this due to renewed interest? You used to be able to pick them up for next to nothing. My last one was £4 off eBay.
Ghillie is just a brand by the way, there are other makers (Kelly Kettle for example) at different prices. This actual style of kettle has been around for centuries, some army's had then as standard issue. I think my old one was ex-army. They are a great item for teaching children about fire, it's uses etc too :)
Pour water into the cylindical walls (through the spout)..
Light a small fire(kindling and twigs) in the small fire pit...Place the kettle on the fire...and feed with more twigs etc through the hole in the top of the kettle till the water boils...Pour into tea/coffee cup...sorted!!
Usually enough water left for the washing up as well!!
Jelboy.
------------- Campers of the storm,Into this world are born
I've got the smallest one (oo-er). I've only ever used it once as it's not much cop for backpacking. It is, however, a fab piece of kit for static camping, car camping etc. I'm going camping next weekend with Mrs and co, and may take it along......it's a thought!
