Just got off the phone to a large retailer who has told me that the Chinese government is forcing all tent manufacturers to halt export and deliver any tents to areas effected by the earthquake!.

Seems it's true!....

"The government has told China's tent manufacturers to deliver 30,000 tents to the affected area in central China every day."

Evidently any tents that are not currently on the water are going to be delayed for months.

Well that does it for me, i'm not risking waiting till the end of July for my tent... I'm buying now!

How many of the well-known brands manufacture in China?  Something I've not considered before.

I think their need is greater than ours! 

However after the week we have had in windy uk, surprised not so see roofs like this all over the place...

I quite agree. I wouldn't want to be in their situation and if a tent can offer some shelter they are most welcome.

Yup, tents for the homeless folk out there v. us not getting the latest design this year and having to rough it out in last year's colour of Vango?? Ooooh, difficult choice. (I too could last out a four to five year tent famine quite easily, lol.)

I would try your local Lions or Round Table - they are often involved in stuff like that.
