Just listened to news headlines 8pm. Sadly, couple found in camping pod at site in Penrith, one dead, one ill possibly with carbon monoxide fumes. Everyone take care this season.
Oh no that is incredibly sad did they use their own heaters?

Other news sources state that it was caused by a barbecue, seems odd that anybody would actually use one inside a pod. Do these pods have cookers & heaters inside them, I wonder?

Sadly no matter how many warning etc are issued there will always be the "won't happen to me" factor.
I don't think the warnings are visible enough, or strong enough. They usually comprise: 'Use in well-ventilated area'. Many gas heaters specifically target campers, so it's surely another accident waiting to happen.

Was a little sceptical at first as to whether this item would provide much warmth but after using it in my Outwell Hartford XL tent on a couple of cold nights i was very impressed!
The living space inside the tent is vast yet this flameless catalytic heater warmed it up a treat! Well worth the money!! '
See any warnings that this product can be lethal? Nope! People buy the things, unaware, don't always read the small print - if indeed there is any specific small print - then use them in poorly ventilated tents etc. They are marketed for camping, what else are the majority of purchasers going to think?
The Gelert gas heater is the only one which includes a vague sort of warning in the product detail, but would you even spot it?

Incidentally, I can recall a time when posters advocated taking the Cobb barbecue into the tent, as a heating source once cooking was finished, so this is 'awareness of the dangers/it won't happen to me' approach is not a universal truth. I suspect it's more about ignorance of the dangers.
What a shocking waste of life. My thoughts are with those poor families who have lost loved ones.
I believe it's about time manufacturers stepped up their game and issued a very clear warning on their products.
We've stayed in a pod but it did have an electric panel heater.
Looking at the ones on Quiet site website it looks like they have no heating, hence why they maybe used a gas heater.
So sad.

I suspect it will turn out to be a bbq (probabally a disposable one) brought indoors.
Ellesbelles you have a point but I think the heaters are by and large not the issue, it seems to be BBQ's and perhaps they should have the warning on. I can see its tempting to bring a small portable one inside for warmth.
Those pods should as a minimum have smoke detectors and CO and even oxygen depletion sensors. The lawers will be sharpening their pencils.I think if you have such a small airtight box they need to take a duty of care about the quality of the air inside.
