Hi, Just got a monty 6, have managed to put it up in garden and get it back into the bag !
However my wife is 5 months pregnant, and it was a right faff to get the tent up, so can some help with a very specific queston.
Once all the poles are inserted into the canvas and its time to start lifting them up, how do you do it? We tried lifting just the last A frame(like in the video), but the other 3 lying on top of it make it impossible. So we have to lift all four. Wife found that very hard(wasn't that easy for me). Holding all A frames up whilst I try to peg them down is also to hard for wife.
I think we lifted the A frames upright first then inserted the golden pegs in the bottom, is that the best way ? Once we get the first A frame up, golden pegs inserted and pegged out, the rest is fairly easy, its just the initial lifting of the 4 A frames thats hard.
Did it with my brother later and that was easier (he's not pregnant ) but it was still hard, is there an easier technique ? The wife an I are going camping next week, so we need be able to put the tent up without doing her an injury, so any help appreciated.

Lay the tent out on the ground, peg four corners but not pulled out to tight. Open the front door and walk indside to get some air into the tent.
Come out of the tent and slip the roof bar at the front door end into place. Join the legs on either side and lift, make sure the adjustable straps are loose and insert one pin making sure you do not snag the fabric at the top where the leg and roof bar join. Then on the other side push the pin in and again make sure the fabric has not got caught. Then pull the straps down to about half way. If its windy put a few guys out on this front pole area.
Repeat down the tent until you come to the last section.
Shut the door and adjust and peg out but dont pull the grounsheet out to tight.
ah, okay so don't put the legs on the other three roof sections. Lift up the one, put in the legs etc, then go to the next roof bar and insert the legs into that ?
I guess that should make it easier to lift, if we haven't put all the legs in at once.
thanks for this topic, Going away this friday for two weeks rest and relaxation in padstow. we have a monty 6 and struggled like hell setting it up in the garden. It was very hard getting then pins the the legs of support poles. so hopefully this will help, worried like hell it will rain and tent will leak!!
Yep that method certainly works, kind of pull it out like a caterpillar if you get my drift until each section is tight, guy it, move backwards and repeat until all done.
It does get so much easier when the tent loosens up, we have always raised the tent with all poles attached. I have to say Garys method sounds easier, we have pitched in some very windy condition on the northwest of scotland and the tent is going nowhere when all the poles are in!!!

I tried pitching my monty this way and I will never pitch it any other way now - it is so much easier as I have to pitch it with 2 children although putting the extension on was another story am going to have to find a nack of adding that on before finishing erecting the tent as neither me or my kids are tall enough and it did produce a few giggles from us when we were putting this on - it could have been worse - I could have lost my temper big style lol

If you fix the fabric of the canopy to the tent before you lift the tent then you can ad the poles later when the rest of the tent is pitched. Dont do this if its windy though.
Glad i read this . i had to get inside mine to lift the poles cos we had them all threaded through ,legs and all.On another thread it says do the back poles first .Does it make much difference or does doing the front alow the air in making it easier to put up?there were 3 adults last time
I find putting the front up helps to get the air into the tent. Some say start with the second pole back from the front but whichever way you do it just erect one roofbar and leg section at a time and make sure the adjustable straps at the bottom are loose and the fabric at the top is not caught where the legs and roofbars connect.
