I have just spent yet another Bank Holiday weekend crammed onto an overcrowded site with the flysheet of my tent virtually touching the tent pitched next to me.
The site I have just visited said 60 units but there must have been at least double that number and the facilities just couldnt cope with the number of people on site.
So I have a question for all you C&CC members. Do the C&CC sites also pack you in like sardines or is it worth paying the club membership just to get some space. I find that more and more sites are just ignoring the safety and comfort of tenters, particularly over holiday weekends.

Hi Carol, every time I've stayed on a C & CC site, the site manager has paced the 6 metre gap out when pitching outfits, am going to my favourite one on Wednesday, hoping its still the same.
Got to agree with the above- the C&CC pitches are all permanantly set out- so if it says 60 pitches that's it- whenever you go, the 6 metre rule stays. Well worth joining in my opinion.
See you all soon, Bernard.

If you phone the site in advance you will be ok but don't leave it to the last minute, The camping and caravanning club are paranoid about the 6m rule and silence after 11. (Just the way we like it)

Thanks for your replys it looks like I'm going to join the C&CC next year. Our British camping is now all done for this year.
Hi Dave
I would not be happy about naming and shaming this site, largely because they did their best to cope with the numbers by constantly cleaning toilets and staying on top of the rubbish. I'm sure that outside Bank Holidays that this is an excellent site so I have submitted a review which will allow people who are considering this site to read my opinion and help them make up their mind to use the site or not.
Sounds like my idea of hell. We went to a great site in Devon last BH weekend and they were most fastidious about where we pitched to ensure we didn't come close to any other units. All pitches are numbered and adhered to, and in the event we didn't have anybody anywhere near us.
Meant to have gone this weekend but didn't 'cos of the wet weather and forecast.
Doesn't matter if they cleaned the toilets ever 5 minutes or emptied the bin all the time they are STILL breaking the law! If a site is licensed for 60 units thats what it should be and the 6 metre rule applys to all sites. Why on earth are you not complaining loudly? they ruined your weekend! I certainly wouldn't put up with it!
We just got back from the BH weekend in Highbridge/Burnham and I must say all the commercial sites that I saw were crowded. You'd be lucky if it was 6 feet never mind 6 metres between outfits, It made us think TG for the clubs and CL/Cs, depending on your own particular club. I have often said that the club sites are like McDonalds, you know what your gonna get before you get there, same standard throughout the network.
Stayed on C&CC club sites twice. The one in Scarborough appears to use the kids playing field as an overflow at bank holidays. Must admit found it well overpriced for the facilities offered.
We are memebers of C&cc but find it hard to get a pitch unless we book months in advance. I think they should reserve busy times eg Easter/Whit for members only. Its really annoying to spend £30 per year on membership and find you can't get a pitch for Easter when you try to book 6 weeks in advance.
The other advantage of both big clubs and for me the biggest one is their small certificated sites which are cheap offer basic facilities and seldom get packed as they are normally only allowed 5 vans 10 tents (sometimes 15)
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
