Dunno if its been posted already, but Lidl are doing the £60 Satellite system again. This is a cracking piece of kit, had one myself for over a year now and still chuffed with it. It is small, it,s light works off 12 volts, get a lot more features on it than a sky box, well the sky box I have got. No lock up, fast response when you are tuning in, sky box's are meant for a 1 off professional installation, these are designed to be used time and time again. Draw backs? no channel 4 and 5 rumour has it channel 4 this summer tho, dish will not be much good in Scotland (You can use cheapo sky dishes, I use a sky zone 2 dish, used it in the French alps and right at the top of Scotland) The BBC are supposed to be launching their own Satellite system so whether these will any good in a couple of years from now is anyones guess.
The system is nothing to do with sky, you just set it up and use it, no cards or any money needed to get it working. You get all the freeview channel apart from channel 4 and 5, you do get film 4 tho and you will get about 500 other channels on there, anything from porn, gambling, news, even Real Madrid football club tv, 95% off the channels are rubbish tho, we used to use it to listen to Radio 2 in France. Get bored you can tune in to other satellites, Italian football, German soaps the list goes on. You can mount the dish supplied on most things, got a sucker base so you can stick it on a car roof or side of a caravan, also a clamp mount, clamp it to your jockey wheel, stick a stake in the ground and clamp it to that.
I heard on the radio last week that the BBC are going to be launching their own satellite service next year called "Freesat", it will carry all the free to air TV channels from both BBC and ITV and to receive it all you have to do is to buy the receiving equipment.
Apparantly the reason they are doing this is because there is no guarantee that their channels will always be available for free via Sky and so they wanted viewers to have another option of receiving their channels when analogue is switched off because good receiption on Freeview is not available in all areas.
Hi just been to Haggerston Castle for a mini break and tv reception was horrendous, used status aerial and then a normal one but no better, would one of these sattelite kits get me a good pic up there and which one is best seen the ones in aldi and also some small white and red ones but am confused as to what i need only want it for the uk. ty in advance for any help

I can second that, I got just the receiver from Maplin a couple of years back, and it had a Lidl sticker on it!, also lancscamper mentions "Freesat" from the BBC, which incidentaley launched a few months ago, and which is quite different from the "Freesat" from Sky, if thats not confusing the "Freesat" from the BBC currently will not give you Ch5, this is because the Ch5 signal is comming from Astra2C satellite with a large footprint over Europe so it needs to be encrypted, so Ch5 needs to move to the Astra2D satellite which puts a spot beam (small footprint) onto the UK, problem is all the transponders on Astra2D are fully booked due the BBC/ITV HI-DEF plans, which means, some one is going to make a lot of money, otherwise the UK analogue switch off will have to go on hold, unless Astra SES (French owned), can get another bird up there before June next year, and I don't think that will happen, not a spot beam bird at anyrate.
Hi all ! I bought the sat system from Aldi about 5 months ago probably the best thing I have bought for the camper.I have been all over the country with it and always get a superb picture. At first it drove me nuts trying to set it up but now takes a few minutes. You can do a scan every few weeks to download the latest channels and channel 5 should be on later this month. There are a couple of websites that give loads of info like www.satelliteforcaravans.co.uk www.freesat.co,uk this has nothing to do with freeview as this is only available with an aerial. So go and buy one you will not regret it.
Wyn.

you can get chan4 4+1 more4 and more4 +1 E4 and E4 +1 everything except chan5 which is locked in with sky still ,good little receivers for the money .theres a difference between sky freesat (the one you pay for) ,freesat and free satellite we use ours in the living room ,a better sat reciever that has slots for cards and cams in the bedroom both onto the same dish via a dual lnb ,theoretically you can plumb in your sky boxes into it as well through the second LNB loop through but we dont do sky!!
both can independantly drive the dish but using 2 boxes changing sats could be confusing to the motor
