your taking a risk with this. its just a made up extension lead. you should have some form of protection ie RCD this will give you the saftey you need when camping.
but yes you have wasted your money always better to pay that bit extra for peace of mind. Although you can buy a in line rcd unit that could be installed at the socket end (as they are not outdoor rated)not the plug end as I have seen them on some sites in the past.

In a word 'yes'.
The photo on the link you posted appears to show a simple extension cable - a C-form plug one end and a four-gang 13A socket block at the other.
That is not an EHU unit. It has no RCD (residual current device) and no MCB (micro/mini circuit breaker). Both those are important safety devices; the RCD protects against electric shock and the MCB protects against overload.

The price range seems to be about £45-£60. Expensive maybe but safe. If you scour the web (start with Google) you will definitely find offers, often as 'loss leaders' to get you into the store. For example, I picked up a branded EHU (20 metre cable, four 13A outlets) for just £20 in the GO Outdoors Boxing Day sale.

Go Outdoors has them for about £35 now, but you need a coupon from their sales flyer. The sales guy went and got us one from somewhere in the store so we could use it.
My feeble little brain is unable to retain anything I read about electrics, so after reading a thread very similar to this one, I resolved to buy something with a reputable brand name at a camping supply store.

Cool, thanks for that. Is that for the 4-way socket one?

------------- If you're not on a fell your wasting your feet and for 2014 it's.......Feb Castleton Mar North Yors Moors; Apr Sutton on Sea; May Thirsk; Jun Clapham/Riverside (Lakes); July Wharfedale; August Crakehall; Sept Knaresborough; Oct Wirral Park/Clitheroe
only way it would be safer to use the one you bought off ebay would be use a plug in rcd unit, but that would only allow you to use one socket out of the original lead, if your confident on wiring up a new socket, it would be possible to replace the 4 way socket end, with an rcd protected socket, and the lead would be safer than what you have now, but im not sure campsites would allow you to use it this way, as its still basically a home made lead,
EDIT:
This is the kind of this that you would ideally need, but for cost and ease, its far simpler and cheaper to just buy the correct lead, TWIN RCD IP66 Socket
