We purchased our caravan off a person who smoked.We used a variety of autoglym chemicals to agitate the upholstery and also the ceiling in our van is made of a brushed felt which we also agitated with chemicals and scourer.But the final nailing of the tobacco smell, we purchased a cannister called a FOG BOMB of the internet.How it works is you open all the cupboard/wardrobe doors,place the fog bomb somewhere central in the caravan and hit top of cannister and it sprays up into every crevice and surface in the caravan, totally eliminated any remnance of the odours and it proved to to be permanent.They come in different scents, the one we used was called summer berries,I think.You can smell the interior of our van when you walk past the open door.When we bought ours a couple of years ago we paid about a tenner,BARGAIN!
When I was in the motor trade we used something similar to clean and sanitize car air-conditioning systems.
