Can anyone recommend the best hammer for knocking in wooden posts for a windbreaker please. I currently use the light weight rubber mallet I use for knocking my tent pegs in but it's hard work. Thanks
I use a club hammer and also have a piece of blanked off tube I pop over the ends of the wooden poles so when I show them who the boss is they don't shatter.
I like this item as it creates high impact with less weight. It's very strong in construction and the ends are nylon and are replaceable. There are various weights and sizes available.

Hi,
As Moppetsdad pointed out, the scaled down cylindrical tube blanked at one end ,a scaled down version of the ones used for large posts are the best. A lot safer too.

Thanks for all the brilliant replies. I'll be going down the route of buying a club hammer and using a blanked off pipe. Really like the link that sells these ready made but is there a way to blank off a pipe yourself as a cheaper alternative?
Of course, get piece of tube as close as possible to the size of your wind break poles and make sure the end is square and either weld a flat plate on the end or get your local small garage to do it for you or maybe someone who does up cars close to you.
Hi,
As David says any local welder can do it.
If you are allowed to take things from your local tip some wider bicycle tubes would be fine.
Good luck.

Greg
