It just says its selling its bottle filling plants. The bottles may well continue, for example Campingaz bottles are filled by Calor in the UK. The BP Gas Light bottles were intended to be a Europe wide thing that unfortunately never happened. They are available in UK & Holland & thats about it.

Well I wish they,d let us know, we've two bottles, one empty to be filled when the other gets nearly empty, bet we get stuck with both !
if its sold to another company then it will continue to be supplied as is.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
'BP' have huge investments in all sorts of products besides forecourt fuels and Liquefied Petroleum Gas and they are seeking extortionate profits in any business they undertake around the globe. If they find that one particular area is not performing to reach their annual target then they will try to sell off that line of business due to a low profit margin. 'Calor' however only invest in LPG products so the likelihood of them withdrawing their products from the leisure industry is very unlikely indeed. During a discussion with a fellow caravanner about two years ago I was encouraged to buy 'BP' gas cylinders because they were cheaper than 'Calor' but I declined for two reasons. Firstly the concern regarding the availabilty and secondly for this very reason that any company that has connections with the oil industry have far bigger fish to fry than filling a minority of vehicles with LPG at filling stations and a few hundred bottles of gas for barbecues and the leisure industry. My advice is to change to Calor if possible because if a buyer is found then you can guarantee they will want a big turnover which won't be in the interest of the general public. Profit first & customers second, and that is reflected in the majority of big name companies these days.
I seem to recall that when Shell moved out of the bottled gas business a while back it was taken over by Flowgas. Going back further still I think it was the likes of Flowgas that introduced the 6kg propane steel cylinders and the demand caused Calor to follow suit. Competition is needed in the market or we will all be at the mercy of Calor. Refill systems are ok but as far as I know Gaslow are the only ones to have survived for any length of time despite a few others attempting to penetrate the market over the years.

My gut feeling is that if BP can't justify the ongoing running of the operation then if it gets bought out then on top of the running costs then there will also be the debt servicing costs too.
Have just bought a caravan and it has 2 5kg BP gaslight bottles. WE are going on a 6 month trip around europe this april....when the gas runs out.....what do I do? can I exchange the bottles anywhere or are they just UK only. Guess they arent refillable at a campsite/petrol station etc anywhere. Should I take a camping gaz bottle as a back up........
well i have an ongoing forum on this elsewhere. i just googled gaslight and this old forum came up.
I'm going to see if I can exchange my 5kg for a 10kg at homebase who seem to be the best supplier of gaslight and buy a 907 camping gaz bottle and portable double cooker. At least I will be able to refill the gaz bottle and will probably cook outside most of the time anyway..
Gaslight is actually a Flogas product, MacGas is the Scottish arm of the company.
