A great family sized tent with loads of space for the 4 of us (2 adults and 2 children). Easy to erect including the additional porch. Stood up well to gales in the Lakes and no problems with rain. The addition of the storage pockets in the main living area and down the sides of the bedrooms is a great touch and very useful for storing all the bits and pieces.

We use the porch for cooking and eating but we still have plenty of space to fit a table and 4 chairs in the living space. All in all a great family tent.

I love this tent. It is huge, we have it for a family of 4, but used it with 5 kids this last week and worked brilliantly. My husband insisted on this instead of the 6-man tent (which I thought would be fine) as he can stand up properly in all parts, and can lie down without being cramped when we have one end to ourselves. He is 6'1'' and so sleeping in tents is a big issue normally for him. It is simple to put up once you know what you are doing - 2 people needed (me an my 12 yr old daughter coped fine though), and an extra person can reduce time taken. Only needs one person to take down. I wish the inners were a little darker for night time, but this doesn't seem much different to other tents. I did break a pole section the first time I put it up in a gale, but getting it replaced at Go Outdoors was easy and worked fine next time. Would certainly recommend.

We own the 2013 blue version of this tent and it is excellent! It is quick & easy to put up and has never let us down. There's loads of space for a family of 4 (especially with the porch added) and the carpet makes it cosy. We have camp beds that fit in the sleeping pods well and still leave room to move around.

We have experienced some really rough weather in this tent - both high wind and lots of rain. It has never let us down, always staying very dry and rigid. Tents around us got flattened but we managed to stay intact with no problems.

I would certainly recommend this tent. It is practical, affordable (especially when Go Outdoors have one of their 'offers') and easy to use.

We have last year's blue version and have had the tent just over a year now. It has been our sanctuary on seven trips ranging from one night to a week, and I still love it! (and miss it when we camp in our other tent) I wonder if the novelty will ever wear off. We are a family of two adults and two primary aged kids and it's perfect for the four of us, but we've had up to 6 people in it when camping with friends without feeling cramped. We chose it primarily for it's vis a vis design which means we can have a 4 man bedroom at one end of the tent and the kids can have a 2 man bedroom each at the other. This gives everyone their privacy, especially as we hang both dividing curtains together between the kids as one alone can be a bit see through in daylight. The central lounge is plenty big enough for all our chairs plus a blanket in the middle to play board games etc. On. It has loads of pockets on both bedrooms which means you don't have little odds and ends cluttering the floor and is perfect for keeping gadgets in while charging from the EHU. It comes with one set of king poles for putting the door up as a porch. We keep meaning to bring our set of king poles from our other tent so as to put both doors up, but actually now we have a canopy (non matching one) we don't really need to. I love all the little details such as mesh on all the doors / windows to keep it bug free, the way it vents all the way round and none of the vents need pegging because they clips to the poles. It comes with enough hooks etc. To hang things from and set up bungees for drying towels etc.

Despite getting 2 leaky tents then a zip bust in Scotland. Gooutdoors have been on the ball even changing a wet tent in Scotland. For us this tent is exactly what we require. Easy to put up, bedrooms at each end and plenty of space for our 3 girls. Biggest drawback is there is no canopy over the doors. I also got the footprint, carpet and porch.

Love this tent. Spacious, warm yet good ventilation, storage pockets sewn in all over, windows with mesh and privacy covers. Made even better when added on the porch so we can now put our cooking gear and table in there and this makes the 'lounge' area inside even better with ample room for four chairs. Easy to put up, made easier with the footprint, and not too bad to put down. Being symmetrical means it doesn't matter which way you put it up really. Practical and looks nice too.

I got the Kalahari 8 in August last year, its first trip was a week away in Norfolk and it was brilliant even in heavy wind and rain. I managed a few other weekend trips before packing it away in the loft for the winter.

This tent is very very easy to put up, Usually in 20 minutes if I can keep my 'helpers' busy by holding ropes at either end of the tent. Taking it down is equally easy and the fact that you get a bag for the tent and a separate bag for the poles/bedrooms makes it even better - particularly when trying to jigsaw everything into the boot of a car.

There are enough air vents to keep the tent feeling fresh, and fly sheets for both window and doors keeps it feeling cool in even the hottest weather.

I won't go into all the specs of bedrooms etc, but the central living area is big enough for me to keep a table permanently in a corner. Although the most chairs I have had up inside so far have been 3 adults and 1 childs', this was still not a squeeze.

One brilliant advantage is because there are 2 doors on either side of this tunnel tent it does not matter which way you put it up - there is always a door and window facing outwards or 2 if you pitch it up widthways rather than lengthways.

As there is enough room inside for my needs, I never bought the awning, but this weekend I was pitched next to a Kalahari 10 which had an awning and I am now considering purchasing one - it made cooking outside much more comfortable if it rained.

I do have the carpet, this makes a big difference to the feel of the living area, but don't think that the backing on the carpet is brilliant - I have already duct taped one area to strengthen it after only 1 long weekend away where a chair had been in the same position for a few days. I would recommend looking at the back of the carpet and making your mind up before buying it. I bought mine in a Go-Outdoors sale so wasn't too disappointed, but would certainly have taken it back if I had paid the top price of 60.

We have just returned home from Scotland,

We had a week in our hi gear Kalahari 8. We have a porch extension which makes a good storage cooking area. The tent had 6 of us in it (5 adult size) and space was not a problem. It was bone dry all the time even in an over night Scottish rain storm. I would recommend this tent to any one

Bought this tent last year from go outdoors, this is a our second tent, the first being a Coleman coastline 8 deluxe, this was a major step up in quality and used it just once last year, off for two weeks in cornwall in two weeks and then another week on the east coast, so much room, the two kids love having a bedroom each and we've just bought the porch for extra cooking space. Easy to put and down, excellent tent for someone that wants to try camping but also wants plenty of space.

Had it 3 years, used 3 times all in disgusting weather.1. Left it for a week at Tan Hill Inn as the weather too vile to take it down, along with my caravan and awning. Returning a week later after ferocious gales for a week,at Britains highest Inn, caravan awning shredded, Kalahari totally unharmed. 2. Horton in Ribblesdale, pouring rain and floods. Great. 3. Great Langdale, after deluge for a week, massive downpours. Cosy as you would want. A great tent, easy to put up and down, would take it to the Antarctic, MASSIVE inside for just the two of us, great for Glamping which I intend to do in France in a couple of weeks. Fellow campers will a) take the p. In serious mountain sites or b) be jealous of the luxury. I have the awning, carpets et al. Marvelous. Great touches like storage pockets on the bedroom walls in and out, loops for hanging, good window designs etc. Just bulky if you don't have a big estate car.

Manufacturer's Description

An updated version of Hi Gear's popular tunnel tent, perfect for relaxed family camping holidays.

The Hi Gear Kalahari 8 Elite is a spacious and stable tunnel-style tent with two large partitionable bedrooms in a face-to-face layout, roomy enough for you, your family and all your gear.

Pre-attached high-visibility guylines, reduced pole sleeves, and sewn-in polyethylene groundsheet make pitching the tent quick and easy.

The bedrooms comfortably sleep four at each end of the tent, in 2+2 inners with breathable polyester walls. Bedrooms can also be removed, to give you extra storage space, or room for dirty gear.

The large living space has two large windows and hanging storage pockets to help keep it tidy, organised and liveable. Multiple vents along the roof help air flow throughout the tent.

The sewn-in groundsheet combined with the fire-retardant polyester flysheet (with 4000mm hydrostatic head) give you a fully sealed and ventilated internal environment, so you'll be completely protected from draughts and sustained downpours. The two doors can be propped and extended out to use for extra shelter from rain or stretching the space out for more room if it's sunny.

Other useful features include the water-repellent zips and an electrical cable access point.
