Hello all. I`m new to this forum and just got my first camper a Conway Cardinal Clubman from 1988. So here`s my question. Does the leisure battery charge system from the 12s plug switch its self off when the car is not running? I`m concerned about draining the cars battery if I stop for a few hours on my way somewhere. I used the search on here and couldn`t find anything. I know they are getting old now, mine`s 35, but they are still a great way to get out camping and when I saw the way they are laid out inside I had to have it.
short answer is no it wont charge when the car is turned off, in fact it wont charge even when the engine is running unless the revs are above 1500 revs, however ours of the same age (in the past) did not have the ability to recharge the battery from the car even tho it had 12 n and 12s plugs, the 12s was purely for the reverse lights. to recharge the battery we had to carry a ctek charger and plug it in when we had ehu on a site
Yes it does as the charge comes from the vehicle's alternator when the engine is running. When the ignition is switched off it also isolates the current to the trailer's leisure battery.

Tango, that is the case with the newer ones but the ones of this age which is what we had, at home you had to remove the battery and charge it before you went, and then either take it to a garage to ask them to charge it for you, or use ehu and a battery charger. mind you with so little demand on the battery as it only ran the lights and the water pump a solar panel was ideal once on site and off grid
