I have a 2004 Conway Cruiser folding camper. I just discovered a 12N socket at the back of the camper, on the opposite side of the side with the tow-bar - thus I have two 12N sockets - one at the front, and one at the back.

I suddenly just had the thought it might be for a lighting board, would this be the case? If so, why would it be needed? That said, there are two short vertical poles welded into the pull-out bed support tray - would this be for a bicycle carrier? Or something else?

You'll probably never know for sure unless previous owner shares the reason, but your thoughts of lighting board for a cycle carrier (or luggage rack or some other rear fitment) seem highly likely. Most cycle carriers cause standard rear lights/number plate to be at least partially obscured which is illegal, so an auxiliary lighting board is the solution.

The 12N is a road lights socket, so unless wired in a non-standard way, that seems the most feasible explanation. If the wiring is non-standard then you can only speculate even more!

Defiantly for a lightning board as pennine and Conway made a cycle carrier that slotted into the back bed support. Think in 2006 they discontinued this as it was causing load instability when towing. Our 2007 pathfinder has the slots for the rack but the 12N was not fitted and when I queried pennine that was there response regarding the loading. You can still find these racks on eBay but they are rare if you only want to carry a single bike.
