Apologies, I know that has been discussed before, but unfortunately the photos are no-longer visible on the key thread.   at pie*face - did you complete the task, and would you be very kind and share pictures/advice? Thanks!!

You could be out of luck I'm afraid as pie*face has not posted since Dec 2017 and that was his only post of the year.

XVI yes?

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

I would have thought it a straight forward job. It the beds are opened up then you should not need to compress the struts to get them on the studs or bolts.

I managed to get in touch with 'pie*face' who was very helpful. To cut to the chase, he convinced me not to waste my time/trouble.

But if you want the details, he said:
"I did manage to fit a gas strut on to the left hand bed, but it didn’t work out very well. I was lucky in the fact that I was able to photograph and measure another later fiesta that had the gas struts fitted as standard.
I used a genuine Pennine gas strut and made an exact copy of the steel frame that fitted the underside of the bed board. However after using it twice while camping I noticed that the strut was pushing the bed board away from the camper body leaving an half inch gap. It was if the strut was to powerful, but it was the correct strut for the fiesta.
With this in mind you would think that the bed would shoot up, but it didn’t seem to make a lot of difference to the effort needed to lift the bed. I had tried the later fiesta with factory fitted struts and that made an amazing difference. During the modification I did look at what was required to fit a strut to the right hand bed. That would have proved more involved as the rear light cluster would have to be relocated.
I gave up and removed the strut (still got it) as it was distorting the bed board."

So although he also explained that he had replicated all of the strengthening brackets etc etc, my own interpretation is that the (old) hinge itself is not strong and 'smooth' enough to make it work. But of course I could be wrong! So it's back to the fitness training for me
