I wouldn't say we're seasoned campers yet so are still encountering problems with our Conway Cardinal folding camper nearly 3 years down the line. We recently camped with EHU but found that the lights in the camper didn't work and the power gauge/meter??? didn't move from red to green as it usually does when we connect to the sites power? We just assumed that there was something wrong with the camper electrics and did without electricity. Incidentally, we didn't check the sockets in the camper as we thought that they wouldn't work as the lights weren't working??? I've since been told that it was probably our flat leisure battery that caused the lights to not work, and that if we'd checked the sockets, they would have worked? I'm very confused - can anybody explain to me what the problem could have been? Sorry for the long message by the way....any responses will be greatly appreciated. Melanie :D

Did you ask the site owner to check the trip in the EHU outlet?

Hiya spookt. We did check it ourselves and the site owner checked it too. We checked the fuses as well but all looked ok?

on a caravan there is an in line fuse from the charger to the battery if this blows there is no 12V supply
also have you checked your EHU cable for continuity.

with the EHU connected you should get a meter reading of 13.8v at the battery terminals.if not the charger is not working

I own a 1999 conway cruiser and don,t know if your electrics are the same.Under the locker is my fuseboard and in it is a cicuit breaker for the tranformer rec(charging cicuit). This supply powers 12v lights ,pump,12v sockets and charges the battery. when on HU.,but all 12v will still work fine without a battery on HU.On the top of the fuseboard is a red 12v swich ,which needs to be switched on when on HU.. That is of coarse assuming the mains supply is ok.This can be tested at home by runnung a lead (via a mains adapter)and connect it to your sockets.   hope this helps GCB

We had two Cardinals and the lights work off the battery not the electrics.  I would take your battery out and charge it at home on a normal battery charger if it is totally flat.  If it is worn out you may need to replace it.  I would also connect the EHU and check whether the sockets work.  If they do, you can use a lamp whilst you sort out the battery.

Lights, pumps all work off of the 12 volt supply be that battery or from the on board transformer. If on hook up make sure that the transformer is switched on and all should be fine. If no hook up, make sure that battery is charged and the selector switch is turned to van. The transformer charges the battery when on hook up but must be switched on to do so. Failing all that will mean a blown fuse and/or bad transformer. A decent auto electrican will sort it in minutes.

Mine was the same, the lights ran from the battery not the mains (EHU).
There was no onboard charger like modern caravans & FCs have - I carried a battery charger to charge it up when it got low, also a table lamp to run off the mains so we had light even if the battery packed up.
