Hi guys heading away Saturday.. Have had the awning up previously but setting up for 2 weeks solid now.... Just wondering what do people generally put into awning?.. Chairs.. Lights.. Table.. I presume to usual stuff... Just want to make it comfortable
kayaks - bikes, anything else we take with us that wont fit in the caravan overnight. clothes airer, dogs beds, would just be easier to say anything i dont want/cant fit in the caravan
Largely a personal choice depending on how you wish to use your awning, and what gear you've got to put in it.
Over the years, my awning has had a variety, depending on the company and visitors I've had - large dining table and duel purpose relaxing/dining chairs, the standard caravan dining table and a couple of chairs, just chairs, a camping fridge connected to external mains socket for 'beers', a dog crate, and at other extreme, not a lot at all other than wet coats, boots, dog harness and towels all drying off from a good soaking! At rally events, my awning has been used for the buffet table, with the hoards trekking through to fill their plates!
What I've found is, even if not a rainy period, awnings can get quite damp overnight from condensation and humidity, so early in the day, stuff can be quite damp and even wet from condensation drops from the roof (a roof liner helps really well to minimise that!). Thin fabric chairs dry quite quickly, but cushions can take a while longer. Leave your chair in the wrong spot and you may find it's pretty soaked from a condensation drip point! Awnings also tend to be bug traps, and they often die in the heat of the day, so tables and chairs need a bit of a dead-bug clean up before use. Not unknow to find little footprint tracks across items, where 'critters' have been out to play overnight! Just means you may need to wipe over things for hygiene purposes. Worse case, they may have a chew - never happened to me, but not unheard of!
Generally anything damp sensitive like cardboard boxes etc. 'suffers', especially if on the ground even with a carpet, but awning bags, pumps, peg bags etc. often get dumped in a corner - Tip, if you've got the plastic type caravan step, there is a surprising amount of room under it to stuff/store things like awning bags etc. and it's out of the way.
Strict rule in my camp, NO foodstuffs, leftover food or even crumbs left in the awning, especially overnight, otherwise you'll likely become a feeding station for all sorts of wildlife, and some of it you probable don't want around!
In a way, the sheer flexibility of an awning is one of it great points, do with it what suits you.

Cheers Monty..... Ya all sounds good... We'll be sleeping in it so definitely no crumbs.... Looking forward to it now... Happy camping
When we're away for a long trip we set the awning up as a kitchen and living area so we're not sat inside the Gobur all the time. We attach the annexe and set up kitchen, air fryer, larger fridge, a storage cupboard and airer in there. In the actual awning we have a couple of chairs, a table, another cabinet and shoe rack. Have a nice rug down to make it cosy 😊
