Hello, I was advised to jet wash my trailer tent awning. I have recently brought a reclet trailer tent and was advised to jet wash it, so my husband and friend has done that, I have put waterproof solution on the awning since but it is not working, I am currently trying fabsil and hoping that will work, but has anyone got any advise please.
Did you use any detergent when you washed it or could there have been any detergent in the pressure washer from using it previously with something like snow foam? Even the tiniest bit of detergent will ruin the waterproofing. When we had a trailer tent we used to use the gentlest setting on our low powered pressure washer to wash the canvas once a year with just water and then, once completely dry, we painted fabsil on with a large paintbrush. You have to really work the fabsil into the canvas and make sure it is fully covered.
You do not have to waterproof canvas. As its natural the fiber's shrink if it has not been used for a long time. If it is dirty ,or had any kind of grit in the fabric this will let the rain" WICK" through. Its best to clean this with a proper canvas or tent cleaner. After this the idea is to soak and the fiber and will swell back up making it water proof again
Agreed..jet washing kills canvas but it might make it sparkling white although very leaky.
Really soak your canvas for at least a couple of hours in tub of water. This gives time for the cotton to do what it should do, expand. The expansion of the fibre then seals the gaps.
Fabsil or other brands will block the gaps but by so doing, prevent the canvas from acting naturally. You will find that you would need to redo the Fabsil each season.

But surely all baths are more or less the same size, unless it's a corner one.
