Hello everyone,
I am away in the new forest with my pathfinder.
When I pumped up my air porch 6 I noticed a loud crack and I noticed I now have a split in the sleeve at the valve end.
I’ve let some air out and I seem to be ok for now but want to sort this out before my next trip.
With Pennine now gone does anyone know where I could purchase a new air bean for this porch ?
If not is it possible to repair the sleeve ? I’m not leaking.
If it's this one, try Camping International. The other place that might be able to help is Tent Valeting Services, they also adapt awnings for folding campers.
Not a Pennine (or any other kind of FC) person, but pretty sure that awnings were manufactured by other companies and modified by a third company to fit the Pennine, so Pennines demise is largely academic.
It sounds like the outer, and probably the inner too, fabric containment tubes have either had a seam failure or a fabric failure, allowing the air tight bladder to expand too much.
Theoretically either/both can be repaired. Seams can be restitched, tears can be patched. A tent repairer or sailmaker is the usual choice for that as they have the heavy duty sewing machines and are familiar with handling large/awkward jobs. Google for convenient or mail order ones, unless someone on here offers specific companies.
Protect the air bladder! If that fails, that's often the irreplaceable or hard to find part! Chances are the air bladder is fine if it hasn't expanded too much and irreversibly stretched the material, leaving it much weakened at a 'blister/bulge'.
Potential bad news is that if seams and/or fabric are failing, it could be UV damage from long term use and the awning is nearing end of life. You can have it repaired, but chances are somewhere else will fail soon after, and you will just chase repair after repair. It's a judgement call down to you, based on known age, signs of general deterioration, or specific other spots that look likely to fail etc.
Thanks both of you for your very helpful replies.
I will try getting a new one from Camping international first.
If that fails I’ll be explore a repair.
I’ll leave a message here on how I got on.
Thanks again.
James
Update,
Camping international turns out had the Pennine air 6 awnings made by Westfield.
They are an American company.
The uk contact is Miriad Quest Leisure
Miriad contacted Westfield on my behalf and they have no records of these awnings.
I had my beam repaired by Tent Valet Services.
Cost £50 + £20 postage.
They tell me the beam is the same one as on a Dorado pro Awning.
I'm not sure how accurate this information is.
Many thanks for your help.
James
Probably came from Westfield Germany which is where the European headquarters are.
I have had Westfield products in the past and they have all shipped Germany.
