Hi all.... Just wondering how to people level their trailer tent?... Obviously the lay of the land is first to take into account.... But should I start with the wheel jockey... Or legs?
you start by using some sort of ramp on the lowest side and putting that by the wheel that needs raising, use your car to pull it up, then chock the wheel so it doesnt roll back down, or better till apply the handbrake if you have one, if you do then do both. unhitch once your certain its not going to roll backwards, then with the jockey wheel level it front to back, and once that is done its down with the steadies because that is all they do, steady it. they dont lift!
Always start with the jockey wheel. With legs already down it won't make any difference.
Note that legs are not for jacking it up, they are only down enough to steady it. Put ramps or short pieces of wood under a wheel to level then lower steadies.
So level sideways if necessary, then jockey wheel then lower steadies.
Oh right thanks..... I suppose I have been using them to level it... Probably over stretching them so.... Will cut up more timbers so for the next outing... Great thanks....
Does wheel to wheel make more sense? Unless you're really lucky, you will need to raise one wheel to level the trailer across it's width. We use a levelling ramp on one side, and a mini spirit level. The ramp we use (I think it's Fiamma), has a matching chock that slots onto the ramp once the trailer is high enough up. We then chock the other wheel as well.
Once we've done that, we use the jockey wheel to raise or lower the A frame so the trailer is level across its length. Then we wind down the steadies to keep everything stable.
Imagine trying to do this with a Motorhome… front to back and side to side or even diagonal, thankfully most hard stand pitches are pretty level.
We use the water in the dog’s dish to show us how level the MH is. There’s an app for the phone too.
The levelling of the wheel axle is the first step. As others have said use a levelling chock under the wheel to be raised. Put a normal chock by the wheel that is not being raised to stop unit from sliding. Move the unit forward, best done with the car or a beefy push. As it rises up the leveller chock, remember to inch forward the chock on the other side.
When the side to side level is set, put a chock behind the raised wheel to stop it rolling off.
The fore and aft adjustment is then dead easy by twiddling the jockey wheel. Once satisfied lower the steadies and stand up for the applause.
You can do damage by trying to level using the steadies or also by using them to jack it up for a puncture/wheel change. Use a proper jack with the camper attached to the car towball to stop it rolling
Ya I'll need to stop using the legs like that ASAP.... I'm also storing it on a slope atm with legs down(I can héar all the groans!!) legs up straight away tomo!!!! Concrete blocks will hold the wheels
Perfect thanks.... I only use these obviously if it needs levelling... I've gone to sites and just used the jockey wheel as the hard stand has been level.... They look a great buy thanks for the reply
