Have just read all of these messages - lovely to know that other people feel the same way about the Camplet - we did so much research and picked ours up in August last year - only able to use it once last season because of a bereavement - we had a wonderful time in Kent over the fantastic Easter weekend - it is really comfortable for a family of 4 - we slept in the bigger bedroom as we realised it was wider! With deep regret we are about to put our Camp let Concorde on the market - (this in no way reflects the way we feel about it!) and will put an ad in the For Sale bit soon - watch out for it if anyone is interested - we have the sun canopy, breathable groundsheet, spare wheel, cover, electric cable, gas bottle and loads of other stuff .... You lucky people - enjoy yours!
Sorry to hear you are selling, possibly try again at a later date!!
With regard to little bits of advise etc, The first thing OH did when we arrived back with new addition, was put on a jockey wheel. We used to have an old - I mean vintage trailer tent, which I could not move very easily, as normally, its me, the kids and willing but unable Springer who leave to pitch first. I found it really easy to move, even kids could shift it ( they only 8 & 9). So Yes for the jockey wheel!!
Other thing I did when pitching, the storage bit I did n't clip onto the underneath of the trailer as thought our bags would fill it out - which they did, so no clambering underneath to fix the clips to rack..
There seem to be a lot of new Camp-let owners called Jo !! We obviously have Good Taste. :)
Hi we too have a camplet.Brillient bit of kit so easy to use .Jo JO the under bed storage skirt can be cliped on to the rack befor opening. So ive been told not had chance to try it Yet.Must remember to press stud first to get it the right way round.
I am one of those Jo's - I agree with the exeptional taste!
We have rolled the skirt into the sink for travel and clipped it on to the rack while the legs were going on. Much easier than we thought and the storage section seemed bigger this time with the clips holding the roof up. Well worth trying out.
We've just got back from our second trip - so comfy in those big beds. I can't believe how well the kids sleep too. In our tent when they were on air beds you could here them rustling around - and they were always on the edge of tiredness. Not this time though - we all feel really rested. Can't believe we dithered over this purchase!
Planning our next trip tonight - a big one up to the west coast of scotland so I'm looking for ideas for sites and places to visit.
If you are looking to go camping in Scotland have a look at this http://www.scottishcamping.com/ It is a fantastic resource. Everything you need to know about camping in Scotland including wild camping. We spent a fortnight camping (prior to buying our TT) in the Outer Hebrides. It was by far the most fantastic holiday we have ever had.Not much in the way of facilities (not many campsites in fact – but plenty of wild camping opportunities) but that is what makes it so special.I was gob smacked by the place and I’m from the west coast of Scotland.Cal Mac ferries do package deals on the ferry tickets “Island Hoppers”.Highly recommended.
Thanks for the link - will settle down to some serious research tomorrow. Not sure whether we should tour around or pick somewhere like Glencoe and do trips from there? Have been looking at reviews of Invercoe site near Glencoe and it does look great - although I think we'd prefer to be on a beach if possible.
Really looking forward to this trip. The camplet is perfect for it.
Thinking about a possible future upgrade to a Camplet, I would be interested to know how much additional bedding / equipment it's possible to store in the trailer itself.
Is it a self-contained unit, or do you need to carry a lot of stuff in the car also?
We got back from our first camping trip this weekend in our camplet. On the way there it was just the canvas inside with all our belongings in the car or stored on top secured with spider webbing and the touring cover on top. This was fine as we didn't lose our stuff. We took pretty much everything we could with the intention of packing it ready for when we go in june. Inside we have got:- 2 single and 1 double sleeping back, kitchen storage piece (argos) table and chairs (again Argos), 4 tier wardrobe (argos again) poles and sun canopy. In the kitchen unit, we have got plates, cutlery, glasses, saucepans, gas lighter, salad bowl and salad wash.
When we go in june, we will be taking a heater (forgot this time), 4 comfy chairs and a bbq.
We too manage to get most of our gear in the trailer.... canvas bags with 4 x pillows, double duvet and fleece blankets for all, 2 x kids sleeping bags, 4 x folding chairs, windbreaks, convector heater, electrics bag (hook up, torches, etc), toybox (outdoor toys, colouring, cards & games) The kitchen unit holds all plates, mugs, bowls, pans, cutlery, utensils, colander and also tea, coffee, olive oil, pepper, salt, etc with a picnic rug to hold it all in place. There is a front box on ours and we store loo (full of kitchen and washing up stuff) and gas box and bbq charcoal.
In the car we had - electric cool box, crate of non perishable food, clothes, etc and rucsac with walking gear and waterproofs - oh, and 2 dogs!
For our pending big trip we may put the roof box on for the clothes and gear for more comfort on the car journey.
We upgraded from similar to you and are thrilled to bits with our camplet.
Thanks for the info MandSlady and johanna99 - I hadn't realised that there was that much additional storage space available - sounds excellent
We're just back from our first trip of the season and being a bit rusty again, we found that it took an inordinate amount of time to strike camp and pack up. We fancy something that we can have set-up and packed away a bit quicker.
Lindsey - very very tempting, but I don't think finances will permit this year. I'll e-mail you for the details however - there's no harm in looking is there
We had a fantastic time. We stayed at Lickhill Manor Caravan Park. Really good facilities and a tidy site. We did get noisy neighbours who partied saturday away with bbq and music. This carried on until they were told to shut up by the wardens. They certainly got into the spirit of things when the disco lights came out!
All in all a very good first time away and we will definitely go back to that site.
To all you happy Camp-Let owners out there who cant fit their wardrobe bars. Next time your passing Camperlands, call in, ask for Phil and I'll show you an easy way to fit the bar!
We had problems trying to get adequate security for our camplet. This is what we got and was fine when we went away the last bank holiday. Hope this helps. Hitchlock - this cost £19.75 from towsure. The bulldog wheelclamp cost £68.50 from Towsure. We also got some locking wheelnuts from Halfords. Can't remember the actual size but cost £32.99 for four wheelnuts and the gadget for removing them. I've just gone onto the website looking for them but can't find them. When OH gets home tonight I will ask him to find the packaging (hopefully we still have it) and let you know which ones they are. We are still looking to get something to lock the hitchlock when towing as we have nothing for that at the minute.
Thanks all for the tips on security devices and the scottish camping recommendations.
Our trips so far have been great... Easter on Anglesey and May bank hol at Tissington in Derbyshire. The camplet has been superb, slept well, managed to pitch and strike with no problems. Even managed a wet one last monday - all gear nice and dry under the canvas and got the tent out on the drive to dry later the same day. Kids are sleeping so well that they are getting loads out of the trips - they always used to run out of steam on air beds in the tent. I think the camplet kitchen is fab and we are really loving the upgrade to electric hook up!
Can't believe how much we've done already by mid-may.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
