We have a storm strap that we use on the front of the TT awning, the only trouble was that it leaked from this area when we used it, that was also making sure it was positioned on the double layered fabric.......
Any ideas Val?
I have one of the small stub canopies that project out the front of the TT by about 18". When we put the storm strap on, we thread it under the canvas but over the canopy poles. This way it doesn`t rub on the canvas. We`ve also got three sleeves of sort of foam backed fabric (recycled off the straps of an old car seat) that thread on the storm strap, to tuck over the poles at the contact points. So far, no chafing damage.
I would think that even if you don`t have a stub canopy then you could run a strap inside the tent, over the internal frame, if you didn`t mind folding the groundsheet back a little to peg it down.
Hi, yes Val I know what your talking about, can see the stub in your profile pic of TT, we have that on our Oceane TT and in our profile pic of Sunncamp, will try this next time we have to use the strap, hopefully not this weekend!
Thanks for the advise.

I can't offer any help Jane, but sorry to hear of your troubles, must have been an awful experience for you. I hope it all gets resolved for you for the future.
Thanks to everyone for your support and your tip's still waiting for the insurance people to get back to me. But I expect it's due to the bank holiday.
we were in Cornwall the week before you and had great weather but then moved across to Devon for the following week and had the same storms as you fortunatly the TT stood up to it but we did come home early before any lasting damage could happen took 2 days to dry the tent. I hope all works out for you.
Jane, sorry to hear of your experience, but don't give up on camping!
Regarding insurance, we insured our Sunncamp 400SE with Caravan Guard (see the sticky thread at the top of this forum). Total insured is £2500, for a premium of £55 - I've just checked and weather damage is covered.
We had the same experience whitsun with our trailer tent at Tregarton in Mevagissey, ours was an old trailer tent but the experience was awful. Ours was scrap but a family member now uses the bedrooms with his vw camper.
We purchased a 12 month old folding camper a week later and took it to Cornwall for the July holidays, to have the same weather again (sleepless nights and a dread everytime the wind rocked it even with a awning strap).
You should "carry on camping" and the good memories will blot out he bad!
