We used to find it difficult in bad wather in our camper when the weather was bad, without the awning up. I'd remove the carpet if you are able, and put muddy shoes in a crate under the unit. The upturned welly idea is great, but they are pricy when their use is limited and you still have growing feet. I also have a communal pair of welly clogs (cheers Cas ), for trapsing to the loo/bins etc.
We used our 'rollapath' for the first time last week outside the awning, and it was worth its weight in gold. We were on hardstanding with a grass awning pitch, not our choice. This is another reason we bought a porch awning, great for shoes/coats etc.
