Tentz is right a compressor fridge is more efficient but an absorbtion fridge will flatten a 110 amp battery in about 8 hours

Still running. Coolbox still nice and cold. Just checked the battery voltage is 10.8 V so with my workings out it's only consumed 2.6V since Saturday with the solar panel connected. Battery fully charged and checked with digital meter at 13.4V

Isn't 10.8V pretty much discharged? Basically if you get much below 12v showing you are pretty low

As others have said I am sure this will pretty much kill your battery if you carry on

As sunshinetours has said, 10.8V is beyond flat. Leisure batteries are designed to withstand deep discharge better than conventional car batteries, but it is still not a good idea to do it regularly, you will kill your battery.

Run the thing of 240V or get a 3-way fridge and run it off gas. We've used our Towsure one (rebadged Waeco Combicool) off a 3.9kg propane cylinder for at about four weekend trips (and used it for a barbie), and it's still at least 1/2 full.

Still running at 10.2V. So only use 0.6V overnight which doesn't seem right. If the battery is beyond flat how come it's still running the box. Am going to leave it running till it's completely dead.Remembering this is only a test. As this battery only cost me £34.95 inclusive with staff discount compared to around £100 retail am not too worried if i knacker the battery, plus it's got a 3 year guarantee.

Not actually sure what you are now trying to prove with your battery. Any new battery fully charged will be able to be run down in full and last a long while but teh issue is whteher you can then revive that battery enough time so you aren;t buying new batteries every few months which is financially and envirmentally poor in both aspects

Regular deep discharge of a leisure battery will simply shorten its life. Whether your warranty will cover this I wouldn't be sure

Well if you're that carefree with your cash, can I come and pickup the battery, and you can pretend you've knackered it.

Seriously, what's your point?

The point is i now know i can run a coolbox on a battery for 4.5 days not the 6-8 hours as people tell me. It was just a personal test i wanted to try and to inform others how it was going. It also amazes me how some people found this so upsetting.

You didn't mention that you would be connecting a solar panel, only that it was a possibility.  How many watts is the solar charger.  A three way cool box typically uses 7-9 amps  and will use approx 60 amps in 8 hours thus discharging a 110 amp battery. It would consern me that you may not be getting a charge rate of approx 14.4 volts as this will lead to sulphation of the battery and premature failure.

Regards Bob

Not upset as all as its your money! But not a real world test as such as you probably ruined your battery some days ago - just wouldn't like people reading this thinking they could do what you've done as a real world option with their batteries which cost £50 - £150  a pop

Batteries are described as being 100% flat at anything below 12 volts so your battery was dead several days ago!!  Your cool box has been running off the solar charger since then.

regards Bob
