We always made sure there was plenty to do wherever we went with places we could visit indoors or even outdoors with suitable attire, and like Joanne above we had plenty of games.

I'm another advocate for French camping...we took the FC over twice...have a caravan now and it was a godsend in the storm we had one day...but it was just one day and we would also have been fine in the FC.

You can do it cheaply, or if you aren't too bothered about cost, the portsmouth - st malo overnighter and the caen - portsmouth overnighter home make for such a pleasant journey, especially if you are going down the west coast.

We cancelled our Cornwall stay too this year as weather report was for rain, rain and rain - and cold too. For hubby a holiday is being off work. For me though it's getting out of the house - and camping - love it, but had to admit my health was one of the big reasons for not going this year in this weather. So really pee'd off, thinking of doing bank holiday weekend or midweek following Bank holiday - if the weather picks up.

We're also thinking of abroad for next year - but I too like our fantastic country.

I was surprised the cost for storage was that low, might have to look into that as we have other options for home.

Hope everyones holiday picks up!

We are also thinking if trying to fit in a cheeky short trip in the camper if the weather picks up a bit and hoping for an Indian Summer in September to make this possible.

My sister and family are returning today from Vendee and they have had a lot of rain this week with there fc, so much rain I think they are considering a caravan for the future.
Along with them my family are planning on going much further south next summer, to Spain, and hopefully we should get sun,sun and sun.
Granted the UK has a lot to offer but sunshine, good food and cheap wine are holiday requirements for us so the long drive is worth it.
For anyone thinking of heading to the continent but maybe a little unsure regards language /driving don't worry its not difficult and you'll actually find it pleasurable. Once you've had 1 trip you'll never look back.

We usually camp in France, but this year we did two weeks UK. A week in the Lakes, then a week in North Wales, one days full sunshine and dry in the two weeks. Both kids (7&9)have stated they would much rather holiday in the UK with the rain than face the usual heat in south West France and have to wear suncream. We carried on regardless this year and had a great time, saw loads of great museums etc and ventured outside in the breaks in the rain. think France will be in May half term in future and we will stick to UK summers (lets face it we practically have webbed feet now anyway!)
