The zip would be the full length of the cabin. The awning would be stitched in the middle of the zip. So, when you pack the awning away the ends of the zipper would be approximately 1.5m lol Niger than the awning either side.

You could have the zip run the entire length, but it's not necessary
As you only need to have the zip run about 2ft after the end of the awning.

Start where you usually zip, have several feet before the awning, the zip then is stitched to the awning, finally a short length continues to zip on.

There is a photo somewhere which shows exactly the fitting, I'll see if I can find it.

Could a full zip be attached to the Pennine Airbeam Awning. So that it fits tight just like the heavy standard awning does?
