Thanks, We have been to camperlands today and had a look at a used Conway cruiser which also seemed very cramped. We decided against going to Keswick as thinking about the leatherette seats in France in the summer has put me off the opus! We were quite taken with the camp-let premium which I think is the new Royal. We like the fact an extra awning can be added so we could have 2 annexes if needed. It also would fit in the garage. However v v expensive so we can but dream at the moment!! Keeping eye out for second hand ones though.
Sorry, not been on for a while. No, the kitchen is fixed on the Combi. The plus is that the kitchen never has to be lifted, it's used in situ. It is a pretty big trailer, it's as big as we can go, but since you were asking about hard tops and storing outside... We are very happy with it, much prefer it to the Camplet which was the first TT we had. Had we made the trip to Thame back then we might have saved ourselves some money in the long run.
I like that the main unit goes up in minutes, no pegging, the awning roof stays on, and can be set up as a canopy over the kitchen as well, so we really do have a quick pitch, compact unit. At the same time, for the four of us fully pitched it's got loads of space, and although that takes time it's really easy to do. When the kids were younger the flexibility wouldn't really have been particularly beneficial because we always needed space, but now they're older it's brilliant.
I don't think any of the manufacturers really cater for growing kids wanting their own space though, and the trailers seem to be getting bigger, which in a crowded UK is not ideal! Good luck with your decision!

Opus are based (and built) near Ipswich and are happy for you to go there or alternatively they seem go to most camping shows around the country.
We've had a just couple of minor issues with ours since collection and these have been sorted out no problem. Otherwise happy with everything.
Big plus's of the Opus over other 6 berths is that it fits inside a standard garage and the ability to carry bikes on top (will be trying ours out next week). And of course the funky styling that I prefer rather than the 'caravan' look of other FC's :-)
Hi, we are also Northants and picked our opus up a few weeks ago, had a trail run last week and had a few niggles. Now just got on our holiday and not too happy 😢 hopefully opus will sort it out tomorrow! Have you had canvas issues???
Oh dear. This isn't sounding too good. Our difficulty is finding something with a side kitchen and a relatively narrow folded width. Our 1997 Conway Cruiser has been fantastic but is starting to fray at the edges. It just fits down the drive, any modern equivalent is too wide so I was really hoping the Opus would work out. We haven't seen one in the flesh yet - from the material available the only real issue I foresaw was the curved walls making it seem smaller than it really is (and the leatherette of course). Just e-mailed Opus to see if they are showing anything closer to London than Ipswich itself.
have you still got your opus?
just starting to look in to buying one and was looking for any good and bad points and actual experience with these as they are so new!! did you consider any others before you got the opus - if so which ones?

Coincidentally I have just put ours on the market today! We still love it and have mixed feelings about selling it, but we are moving across to a caravan which works better for us.
We looked at Pathfinders, but we weren't as keen on the styling - plus also it didn't fit in our garage so would have cost to store.
As newbie campers last year we have always found it easy to put up and down, we also found the awning easy to put up. There is so much storage inside them we kept everything in there between trips and just loaded clothes and food in the car.
Bad points, if we rush the folding down too much we have occasionally had to bounce on the top to get the lid clipped down - more user error I think! As to be expected, we had snagging issues at first and these were rectified within the 12 month warranty.
Thanks for the tips about loading everything inside...that's a real important one for me...we have a trailer with extension pieces to it, so its about 4.5 ft deep internally and we cram everything in there even so we still have clothes and bedding in the car.
It would be nice to leave duvets/sleeping bags and pillows in the opus!!
how did you find the cooking? camping we take a mini oven with 2 electric rings on the top and would probably look to ditch that!
re the folding/packing away, i should image there is a knack to that...we watched one being put away in a local dealer and thought that the folding down would need a bit of practiced technique!!
re the caravan...best of look Im sure you will love it, my folks have had one for 40years since i was born and are still doing it....they've been bitten in the past though...watch out for damp in the panels but im sure you be ok!
For cooking, alongside the twin hob we use a safari chef or alternatively a slow cooker. Some people do have a microwave but we have never felt the need.
We put our duvet and pillows in vac packs (sitting on them to remove air) which left loads of room for 2 sleeping bags, chairs, kitchen equipment, toys, safari chef and loads more 'essentials'! If you store the awning in the Opus it does affect the storage in the main section, but still plenty of room in the storage lockers.
Sounds like a bit of strategic packing needed but used to that!! If we do opt for an opus I may try & do without the opus microwave & buy our own... Get them cheaper & better spec'd than the opus one! Thanks for advise
