I have a Wynnster Cygnus 8 and have ripped one of the flaps (at the seam) which attach the guy ropes to the tent.

Not had any problems with it so far as the weather has always been nice but we are going to cornwall next week and there WILL be rain!!

What is the best way to repair this??  What thread is best for stitching tent seams??  Will a good stitching and a bottle of seam sealer do the job and keep us dry??

Thanks in advance.

Jonks.

I would strongly recommend that you use proper industrial thread.  You can buy thread (as opposed to cotton) from haberdashery shops but it can be very thick whereas the industrial thread is extremely strong but thinner.

I used to make horse rugs and this was all I ever used as it was so reliable.  If you have trouble getting some, ask Webby to send me your email address and I would be happy to send you some thread.

You will need seam sealer and you should be able to get this at a camping shop.  I repaired a TT and FC using my thread and some seam sealer and it worked a treat.

Hope this helps.

our TT had a couple of broken ties so we removed the old ones by carefully opening the seam with a scalpel and inserted a new bit of nylon webbing and the mrs sewed it up again through the webbing and existing holes,we left two 6" lenghs inside which we tie to an adjoining frame section so the seam wont be stretched in the future ,the cotton used was waxed from a cobblers and certainly is up to the job.
in the end we replaced all the ties and fitted a thick ring on them on strong bungy,to fit the guy ropes they are simply threaded through them untill a matching ring stops them going all the way through,it saves on the annoying habit of the guy ropes tying themselves in knots on opening

its very quick and can be done between showers ,one sits inside and pushes through needle the other on the out side returns it ,a 2" overlap on both sides makes sure everythings ok ,a splodge of seam sealer as you sew makes it permenant
