We have a Conway trailer tent that is several years old but has only been used for family holidays once a year. I have issues with connecting/adjusting/disconnecting the poles using the sprung buttons that are still really stiff. We usually resort to 2-pence pieces, but even with them we usually end up with aching thumbs!
Can anyone suggest anything that will make life easier?
A squoosh of aerosol Fabsil onto the pole joints works a treat, and as it`s a reproofer for canvas anyway it`s guaranteed not to damage the canvas, unlike furniture spray, WD40 and general home remedies which may or may not be safe, but let`s not find out the hard way!
Fabsil will darken the canvas if applied too enthusiastically though so don`t go crazy with it. A squirt down the pole joint overlap is plenty.
I use pledge on the poles to make em slippy! would not recomend WD40 as this may stain..used to have the same struggle with the sprung buttons but found that if you ensure the poles are going up at the same rate ie. one person either end of the pole adjusts by one hole at a time they seem to slip in easier..does that make sense?...if the buttons have become stiff and lost thier springiness it is an easy job to replace them..sold in most camping shops
