is a dandy a make or nick name .i have found conways and penenne at a dealers in horsham.is any one better or just all the same ,i made a mistake buying my caravan dont want to do the same with folding tent so need to pick your brains (i like the conway types 2000 onwards} cheers?????????????????
Dandy was the name of the manufacturer but they changed to Riva - can't remember why now, management buy out or something. Everyone still refers to them as Dandys but they are made by Riva, who can still supply bits for old ones.
Conway & Pennine used to be two different manufacturers but Pennine bought Conway out and they now make folding campers under both names. But Pennine have never made trailer tents, although Conway used to.
Other folding camper manufacturers you may come across are Trigano, also Bonair (American Imports), and there are some old ones by Creighton Binns still about.
Then there are Combi-Camps and Camplets which are a halfway stage between a folding camper and a trailer tent. Also some Raclets and Commanches are a similar idea.
Then there are trailer tents.

Doesn't any one remember the Campervan trailer tent. We bought a brand new one at the Manchester Exhibition (before GMEX which is now Manchester Central) It cost £400 in 1973 and was a 6 ft box which opened up to 18ft and 6ft wide. The floor pulled out from the trailer and the kitchen which was built in pivoted out to make a lower 6x6 area. Then the canvas opened over like the combi camp. It was spacious and a real party tent. We loved it. My only pictures are off my old camera and I do not have a scanner to put any on.
I googled it but only came up with the mv type. I remember the factory was in Milton Keynes as we took it back for a repair. They also had an owners club which we joined and had several really good meets. If I can find some way of finding a photo and transferring it on to here I will. I am sure someone else must remember them.
Hi Caz, I have managed with the help of my daughters new camera to take an image of the said Campervan. It was a very tiny photo and is not so clear but it had faded a little and the children on the photo are all over 40 now. There is another which I will post but it is even less clear. You can see the shape though.

Yes it does., although it seems to be a little smaller. I wonder how old that one is and if someone used the same idea. I think Campervan went out of business quite a long time ago. It is about 35 years since we had ours. I also think they were nearly always blue. Interesting.

Maybe I am reading that last line in the wrong way .But what is wrong with trailer tents ?
Mainly the amount of pegs but I don't think Caz meant that! She was just drawing a line from the almost caravan dandy through the not quite so caravan more tent pennine/conway on (not down!) to combis and on to trailer tents.

I just don't know anything about proper trailer tents 'cos I've never had one, and I didn't think the original poster was interested in anything that basic.
I've owned a Conway Cardinal, Conway Countryman, Combi Camp Easy & Combi Camp Family and have friends who have/had Pennine Aztec & Pathfinder, Conway Cruiser & Crusader, Combi Camp Venezia, Panda and another I can't remember the name of, and an old Dandy.
So I feel qualified to talk about them but not, I'm afraid, about proper trailer tents.
