Hello. - First of all please excuse the lack of an apostrophe in my name, i'm getting it sorted I promise! Awful isn't it?

Anyway my wife and I have bought a nearly new Cabanon Atlantis, we await delivery on March 1st. We live in North Wales, and together with our 10 month old son Samuel, are looking forward to a weekend away in Abersoch for Easter, and two weeks in Cornwall in June. Can't wait, but I wondered if any of you good people could offer three hopeless novices any tips on useful things to take, or essential information we need to know?

Thanks, and sorry again about the lousy punctuation, i'm normally a stickler for that sort of thing.

Sam's Dad.

I' can''onestly say'I've never b'in more' shocked' by anything in my life (sorry can't keep it up)

The best advice I can give is:

Don't worry about punctuation no one but me does!

Have a dummy run close to home if possible or at least put it up in the garden No good going miles and then finding they have sent the wrong set of poles. (yes it doesn happen) Easter is very early so lots of layers. There is a list of essential items somewhere in articles. It looks a very nice tent. Once you get the poles sorted label them with electrical tape to make it easier next time.

There you go ! I keep a list on the computer for weekends and a fortnight. Amend it and print it off and cross things off as I pack. If it isn't on the list it doesn't go.

Number one tip - relax and enjoy it!  And essential to remember when camping with a small - it doesn't matter if the normal routine goes to pot in a field.  And he won't turn to dust if all but his 'important little' places go mucky for a couple of days - it doesn't matter if he doesn't get a bath every day (my daughter's first camping trip was at the age of 4 weeks - she actually took her first steps in a field!).  One of those cellular blankets with the little square holes is wonderful - if he's sleeping in a travel cot, put a cellular blanket right over the top of the cot at night - keeps the air in the cot warmer.

Have a great time.

And me!!

Make a list as Jan P says and save it on the computer - I'd never manage without one. Always did this when we used to self-cater when the kids were small before we had our F/C - it's a life (and sanity) saver!

Enjoy yourselves. We have for the last 40 years.

If you have the space to store it, buy a camping trailer so you can take more "essentials" and can leave the big things stored between trips. Then the car can be for people only instead of packed to the roof lining.

Miss out the motorcaravan, and caravan stages and go straight to a folding camper when you can afford it. Fc's are infinitely better all round than the either of the other forms of camping.Having spent loads of money on m,caras and caras we are expert on the snags and there are many.

We are now trying to sell our camper as my wife is now struggling with camping and put the money toward a world cruise.

Hi again.

Many thanks to you all for the good advice- much appreciated. I'm also vindicated on the apostrophe front. - This website doesn't recognise it as part of a username. - So i must have put it in. I'll just have to live with it, or change username i suppose...

Cheers all
