I am suffering with a terrible mildew problem on the plywood beds of my pennine sterling.no matter what i have tried since buying it in Aug 07 I can't seem to stop it forming. However I think that the more expensive models in the range have slatted beds .Has anyone ever removed their plywood and replaced them with slats?

I am thinking that slats could be varnished and not stain up so badly?

Pennine never seem to reply to any questions people send them.

cheers simon

mildew is usualy a sign of damp ,if it occurring whilst camping itself prop the beds (mattresses) up on the locker tops in the daytime ,if its in storage then remove all the canvas (we do anyway in the winter) spray the beds (boards)with milton and let it dry completely and cover your TT better.
you can get small thermo electric dehumidifiers we have ours plugged in and standing in the trailer so it comes on for while when we flick a switch in prolonged rainy periods.
dont bother with crystal type dehumidifiers your getting damp from the outside anyway so they are a waste of money.
the electric one has a little hose that hangs outside to let the captured water out

Thanks for your replies. I do keep it outside under a winter cover that has a cushion under it to form an air gap. Its a 2007 model. Every thing has been taken out except the canvas which luckily has not been affected. each time I clean off the mould I use a milton solution.

Pennine after sales have never got back after several sales and Highbridge just say keep wiping it off but don't offer a solution.

We had a small amount of mildew forming on the underside of the front bed board so now I do the following which seems to help.  (like yourself we keep ours outside under a winter cover)

Before putting the travel cover on I put a block of wood about 8" square by 3" thick on each of the bedboards.  This stops  any condensation forming between the travel cover and bedboards.  Then I put a long cushion in the centre on top of the travel cover and a strip of timber, again about 3" high, along the front edge of the front bed board.  The timber helps to create a slope when the winter cover is put on.  I then make sure the nose of the camper is up so any rain water runs off the back.
