I don't think they vary by much. We have two and they are different makes but identical. Funnily enough we bought one at Northam Farm Brean from the on site shop.

I was down at Caseys today & got talking about storm straps with the staff & they recommended that if it was windy enough for storm straps then I should also be putting up 'storm props'.

This was new to me, but they provide tension from the inside of the awning by pushing against the pressure caused by the storm strap on the awning frame.

Has anyone else heard about or use storm props?

Awning storm straps can be needed anywhere anytime as the weather can be so unpredictable. We always use one if we have the awning up as it's better to put it up when errecting the tent than wait till the wind is really strong in the middle of the night! We also make sure it has a couple of twists in it so it doesnt thrum against the canvas in the wind and make an irritating noise.

We put our storm strap so that it locates directly above the awning poles anyway, therefore the poles are actually putting pressure against the strap making it unneccesary to use storm poles.

Ditto to Darren, however, learned the hard way by not putting a twist in the strap first time. Good call Jayare!
