We have the chance of buying a great folding camper which is in Glasgow. We're in Southampton. Is our only option for collection to drive up ourselves or does anyone know of a courier service or anything else? I've been looking on courier sites but they say that the item is too big,
Are you buying from a dealer or private seller, if private you may be able to ask them if they would drive say half way down to a service station somewhere and offer to pay their expences
There was someone who advertised in our local free ads paper to tow your caravan etc on holiday for you if you didn't like towing so it may be worth searching in those. Also you may find that one of the man and a van type advertisers may well do it.
However I would be inclined to collect myself as you can then give the unit the once over yourself (I would never just trust photos)
We have just done a 360 mile round trip to collect ours(not as far as you) but it was worth it in the end.
Speaking as a courier...if it will not go on a pallett it would not be shipped! in regards to getting it towed..be careful to check the carriers goods in transit insurance..mine covers me for up to 1/2 million but nowt for a trailer! if you get it put on a trailer again check it is covered by insurance and get a firm quote be aware that this is going to cost you a fair bit as the courier will be running up there empty..you will get people off e.bay quoting £1.50 a mile but read the small print..most have a min charge..best bet is to meet half way..would still be cheaper paying the vendors fuel cost plus yours..at least that way you get to see the unit..imagine paying a couple of hundred to get it shipped to you and then finding that it is (A) damaged on arrival (B) not what it was described as.....
You could always save the hassle and look nearer to home!!!
Thank you very much for your input. I've started another thread called "Dodgy Deal?" because the seller is offering to deliver to me at his own expense via courier. As the F/C is almost new I find this too much of a bargain.
