Just wandered if anyone knows of a way of powering the dandy water pump without a leisure battery fitted. I have twin electrics on my tow bar and wandered if there was any way i could power it from that or from the electric hookup on the site i will be staying at.

I go next week and i don't really want to buy a leisure battery just for the pump ,so any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

On a new conway cruiser you can power the 12v from the built in charger if you are connected to ehu. Having said that i still use a leisure battery even though i never intend to camp without mains electric. Reason being, if the power trips out due to overload or any other reason, the lights will still work! Plus, we can still use the taps to pump water into the kettle for a cup of tea! And 12v phone chargers etc can be used and when we need to use fan heater etc we can use lights etc on 12v to reduce mains power consumption and the chance of blowing the site electrics!! But if you really want 12v from the mains only, try one of those things you can get from car accessory shops that provide 12v from the mains. Make yourself a connecting lead and you should be just fine

Hi There

I have had a Dandy Discovery for ages and have run the pump and interior lights several different ways.

If you want to go off your S type (grey/white) socket you can do. Just need a plug and length of cable (keep it short and with a thick cross section - 3m of 240 volt power will do). Make sure you get positive negative the right way round. I used this and a box with a set of 12 volt sockets and plugs to make a unit I can plug my lights and water pump into. Works a treat.

I then changed it to run off a cigar lighter socket and also used it with an adapter to connect straight on to a battery. (Used the Dandy with several different cars.)

If you are not to happy about making up a S type plug Towsure do a 3m S-Type Extension (Live & Earth Only) cable for £6.95. This has both a 7 pin plug and socket (its designed for powering the lights and pump in a caravan). You can just cut off the socket and connect to your pump.

Hope it all works.

Cheers

Bob

Huloooooo,

As far as I am aware Dandy's so not come fitted with a battery and the manufacturer conected the water pump to the electrics via a charger on recent models.  (ignoring the recommendation that battery must be fitted to the charger)

As the original charger packed up last year (while on holiday) I fitted a CTEK 7200 and that has a setting to power a12 Volt circuit without a battery.  Having said that We have had a110amp batttery on board for the last 3 years for all the reasons that Doit described.

Regards Bob.
