We are going to take a freeview tv away with us for the first time, for the odd occasion that we have nothing to do. I bought an indoor amplified aerial from argos with a high gain of 43db, whatever that means and found at home that it was useless. Taken that back now and am looking for alternatives. We have a folding camper so not sure how or where i could put an external aerial. I would be grateful if anybody could give me your views and the solutions that you have found. Why don't you consider Sky, you can use your box from home and you can pick up a cheap dish. We decided to go this route after being let down with poor reception more often than not. Having said that we don't have it on too long, banned through the day unless its very bad weather that keeps us in. On during tea time for news etc and the odd occassion in the evening. I also use it as the main radio for our tent, perfect reception every time.
We've got the vision plus 530/18 2 as recommended by practical caravan and it is very good. Generally we get away with it perched on the wardrobe but have a screw fitting and poles for poor areas

We also have the Vision Plus 530/18 2. This can be mounted to the hitch via universal mounting plate.
We have 4 extension poles to gain height for the aerial to improve the signal. The poles have holes to secure guy ropes to hold the aerial steady if required.
The aerial generally provides a good reception in most of the locations we have been to. Its certainly far superior to the Status omni directional garbage that came with the caravan.

Hi Paul, I bought the dish from Towsure and it came with a tripod. I find it very easy to get a signal, it is much easier than you would think. I know a lot of people ge frustrated but once you get it it becomes so easy. The main tips are always to have the TV screen as close to the dish as is possible so that you can check the screen for a signal. (Once locked in you just set the TV up where you want it) The second is that the dish remains almost vertical and does not point up to the sky at an angle, this will help you get the elevation right then its just a case of point south and slowly move it south eastwards, We honestly took less than 2 mins last weekend to get a signal.
I bought an aerial from argos standard loft aerial bit bigger than those vision plus aerials but used the mast. cost me twenty quid and as long as you know which way to go you get good quality freeview.
