What would you do?
We have to tow a tt and have 2 kids who are generally good if a dvd on
------------- Oh am loving the tin tent after campaining against it..........I was wrong.
Hi went to bude last weekend from Corby Northants 276 miles took us 6 hours with a rest of about 1 hour but we did leave at 5 in the morning and the roads were great, Now for today left the site at 10.30am did 289 miles with a little detore with a 15 min break and it took us 6 hours but it was so hot and the traffic was really slow until past bristol but going south they had a terrible time on the M5, i would suggest go to bed early just you and get a good nites sleep and leave about 5 / 6 and let the kids sleep for a while in the car you get peace for about 3 hours its great and if you have'nt been that way before WATCH THE HILLS there are loads lol
hello we went from worksop notts to newquay 337 miles took us 7 hours that was with 3 stops to let the dogs exersice we travelled at night though was great nothing on the roads alot better than day driving we got 15 miles from newquay pulled in a big laybye and got our heads down for a few hours until site could take us
we live in lincoln and when we travel to cornwall we travel through the night the roads are clear . when we get near cornwall we stop in one of the big lay bys and have a sleep. then set off bright and early for our campsite.
kids will find it a big adventure, have done it regular when ours were small.
leave about 11pm and take a leisurely drive, stop off once or twice to stretch your legs etc.
we left here 10pm in july, going to st austell with van, just the oh and myself, went the old road,m25-m3-a303-a30,stopped at a little picnic area just before exeter on a30,toilets and plenty of room,arr.2am left at 7am,arrived site 9-30am.
good breakfast and on pitch and set up by 12.
take a quilt or blanket each for the kids and enjoy your trip.less stress and worry.
atb.
i thought i was indecisive, but now i am in two minds.
Am thinking traveling either really early or late on a Sunday night or Monday morning is going to be the option next holiday - especially as camping is apparently more popular as people don't go abroad so much.
Last year I went from Nott`m to Padstow,I left Nott`m around 8.00pm Friday evening and stopped off at Weston-super-mare over night stay car park on Francis fox road £3.00 got there about 12.00,got up about 6.00am,quick cupper and then went to Tesco over the road (opens at 6.00am) and did our shopping then headed off about 7.00am,stopped of in a drop back layby about 10.30 had some brecky, then arrived at Harlyn sands about 1.00pm,no probs with traffic at all,and will be doing the same again in a few weeks time.
The car park is called Locking road long stay.and Tesco P/code is BS23 1XG.

------------- Think this year is to follow old meet friends for 2014.
If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.
Pete.
We live in Leicester and go to Cornwall most years, anyhwhere from Wadebridge to Penzance. We always try to leave early in the morning (still dark).
When we are coming back home (usually around dinner time), we have seen the queues on the A30 into Cornwall and thank our lucky stars we missed them on our way there.
We live in North Herts and went to cornwall this year and stayed over near Bath for a couple of days on the way down and then came home via Weymouth. That really suited us and the kids. When the DVD was on the kids were so quiet. You knew when the DVd was off because they started to get restless lol. We go up to Scotland every other year and usually travel up overnight. We take it in turns to drive while the other sleeps. We usually aim to leave about 4am but always leave about 12pm cos we are too excited to sleep and just want to get going lol. With stops it took us about 8 hours to get there.
We left Cornwall on the Saturday and the A30 was quite busy both ways. When we left Weymouth there were huge tailbacks for ages into that area. If we went back to Weymouth, even though its only a 4 hour drive towing a caravan, i would definetely plan to leave home about 4am even if it means arriving in the area early. We don't have to go straight to the caravan site but can have breakfast and go for a walk.
It is the very busy season now so i'd travel early even if it means wasting time once you arrive.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
