I love the enthusiasm of the people who use these boards, especially those who, like us, have purchased a second hand unit.
We bought a 1993 Conway Cruiser in September but because of the condition of the canvas on the cabin we took it almost immediately to Graham at TVS to have a new canvas fitted. It will be the end of this month before we have saved enough pennies to go and collect it and we are positively champing at the bit !. We have so many plans My OH is really looking forward to kitting her out with electrics and a sound system (any helpful info appreciated) and I am looking forward to making the interior beautiful by re-upholstering the seating and making new curtains. I know from your posts that other new owners feel exactly the same way. My daughter asked if I would have liked to buy a new one and I was able to say, hand on heart, definitely not. The fun and anticipation we will get from renovationg this one is immense, not to mention the many happy hours browsing around camping shops for that elusive 'special something'.
I am sure once we get her back and start work we will have loads of questions. I have seen how helpful the folk on this forum are so we will be seeking advice from you all in the near future.
Kind regards,

Nice one, I agree the renovation will just add to the enjoyment. FC are just brill we love ours.
Sound system ????? Better watch out for that one, you will start another noise debate on here...oh no time to get the hard hat on again and batton down the hatches...... How many watts is he thinking off...boom boom boom LOL
I know exactly what you mean, if we'd bought a new one I'd still have spent money on it on useless things that never get used, I prefer to spend my time and money on doing something worthwhile and then be able to appreciate it that much more afterwards.
Good luck on picking up and going away for the first time!
We spent a long time waiting for our new one. In retrospect I could have got an older one and done it up and then bought a new one if I still wanted to. We love ours though and I am not sorry we "wasted money" on a new one as we look after her really well and will probably keep it till it dies of old age.
------------- Good friends are hard to find, difficult to leave and impossible to forget.
Hi Jan, I wasn't knocking new campers, we couldn't have afforded one even if we had wanted to ! I know they are lovely. We are retired and don't know how long we will be able to continue camping. I am the driver as my husband is no longer able to drive due to having a couple of strokes and although I am in pretty good health, at our age you have to expect the unexpected. So we wanted something we could spend time on that otherwise would probably have been spent watching the tele. This will be an on-going project for us and will, hopefully, keep our brains as well as our hands, working. We are so excited about the whole thing, we feel like kids again !
As a matter of interest, I rarely buy anything new as I really enjoy doing up 'pre-loved' things and making them lovely again.
Bolan, I think our days of 200 watt per speaker have long gone !!
Andi, I have followed your saga with interest and amusement. I was so happy for you when you bought Doodle your excitement was infectious !!

Cyndie, now you are hiding behind age, maybe you will need to have 200 watt just to hear it....LOL What sort of sound system are you thinking about, is it a car CD player or something along that lines?
Jan, you will only have wasted your money buying new if you do not look after it, I think you can have similar pleasure as Cyndie and her live in DJ simply keeping the new looking new over the years. You can stand back with the same smile and feeling of pride as if you had refurbed it yourself.
Oh the comfort of the folding camper, smell of canvas, feeling that you are still in a tent just can't be beat. I love watching Sky TV of an evening in my tent, that just blows me away, I am camping and watching Sky TV. Not a lot mind you but its just the fact that I can.
We now have Reg in our ranks, brilliant, and Cyndie I just know you are going to be a hit here too.......... Bolan
aww Cyndie thanks!! I have been really excited and I'm glad this came across, I just had to share (still do lol) with people that would understand instead of friends and family who think we've lost the plot hehe

I know exactly how you feel. Ours isnt an fc it's a caravan - we got it in April, and although we could have used it straight away it was very dated so we decided to renovate it. Took us four weekends and a few of odd hours of time consuming work but we enjoyed every minute of it - we completely transformed it, and it was great to be able to look at it with pride and say "We did that!"

We have our old Dandy. It is now so dated it is Retro so I'll just keep it as is till the fashion changes again. Have to say though the brown and orange check is fab for children and spills as it all becomes part of the pattern.
It makes me wonder why i live in a house with all my clobber as I am as happy in the camper with only a bag to my name!!
What nice people you are on here....I often stroll round the adjacent touring park looking at the various units.....well maybe one day I'll return to my camping roots
Paul dont look go out and buy you cant beat being away from home cooking on gas and getting the sun as you wake up we love it

I know how you feel Cyndie, I spent 2 years renovating an old coachbuilt caravan, mainly in my head and in my dreams ,months before i bought it .The satisfaction was brilliant, I said I would keep my little "Potting shed" for ever. Then someone offered me so much for it when i was on short time at work I couldn't refuse. Back to dreaming and a folding camper

Oh thats a shame, still you can always start a new renovating project when the time is right, and in the meantime you can search the internet for a likely candidate . I suppose the difficult part is finding the right van or camper.
We have heard from Graham at TVS that our Cruiser canvas has been made and they have fitted it on to the unit so it is all ready to go the downside is we cannot get there to pick her up until the 29th . We are still very excited and dying to see her in all her new glory. I have just about finished reupholstering the seating I think it looks great ! Now ..... what about the curtains.
12 days to go .............
