Hi everyone just wanting to know any suggestions on a car to tow our conway challenger we want to get something small like a citroen ax or corsa do you think these could pull it thanks ant
i tow my dandy delta with a 1.2 punto with no problem but the challenger (i think) at 400kg unladen is close to my delta laden.
whats the max loading of the cars you are interested in because i think the challenger is around 750kg mlw so with other items you could be overloading the cars you mention.

The Challenger weights do vay with age, but the 2006 model is 650kg fully laden. Early ones were quite a bit lighter 550kg fully laden (and a were still braked).
Modern Corsa's should be OK at around 750kg, not sure about older ones.
AX's were quite light. Sticking to the usual rule of the laden weight of the trailer being no more than 85% of the kerbside weight of the towing vehicle suggests the lightest AX (a 3-door 1.0) could tow about 580kg, whilst a 5-door 1.4 could tow about 671kg. I can't find any specific data on Citroen's towing limit for the AX though.
I'm not entirely sure I'd be keen on towing anything much with an AX myself, especially the smaller engined models.
I really don't think an AX would be up to the job, tbh. The one I drove could hardly pull itself along, never mind tow something, and I think they would be a bit too old now to be reliable and strong enough.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
Read your vehicle specifications. There will be a max towing weight shown for braked & un-braked trailers. For safety the Camping & Caravan Club reccomend towing no more than 85% of the cars weight. I personally wouldn't want to tow with anything much smaller than a 1.4 as you may struggle on hills.
Sorry Caz, I didn't follow your link. If Antq is still reading these posts we downsized last year to a 1300 Fiat Punto to tow our Challenger. There is just the OH, dog and me and with the Challenger packed to maximum weight we are within the "85% rule". With the back seats down as well we can carry everything we need (she needs) and we still have power to spare. Just like towing anything though you have to anticipate that bit earlier for braking and overtaking.

We have a Mitsubishi Colt 1.5 diesel and pull a Conway Euro Challenger (braked) 650kg fully loaded it does a great job at towing it and we still get 50mpg
Up to last year we towed our challenger with a 1.9 d citroen ZX, & that was fine, but sluggish on steep hills.But if its like our trailer, it gets packed with all sort,s when we bought it , it even has a boat rack, to put an inflatable on.As long as you keep an eye on the weight, the AX might just do it!
We towed our challenger with a Micra 1.2 with ease. We sold the challenger & bought a small pop-up caravan which we also towed with said Micra which was OK. We have now got a 1.5 Micra diesel which does the business brilliantly. So, a Micra, especially a diesel, would be fine
