Hi All,

Getting our Pathfinder ready for summer & just thought would ask you all -

"How do you hold your awning down in windy weather?

We did buy a storm strap last year just incase, but as we only had one outing last year on a secluded site we didnt have to use it.

Cant remember see any guy ropes on the awning.

Do they exist on a FC awning.

They are there or the loops are there at the two corners. We also add a guy to the centre on the stub. We have a storm strap for emergencies and our poles (the lightweight ones) also have holes in the feet that can be pegged. We have also put guys on the four corner loops of the main cabin.

I always guy the awning corners to hold the legs as we put it up. The rest I only use when I get scared (which is quite easily).

On the first trip out in my 1983 Conway Cruiser the awning guys failed in high wind (the webbing tore right out) and the awning blew backwards over the camper, ripping a lot of seams.

Several hours sewing with a canvas needle later, and with a bit of seam sealer, our tent is now as good as new (well, as good as old).

We bought an awning strap soon afterwards.

Get yoursel down to your local lorry yard and puchase a large ratchet strap. you will need two screwin dog anchors. Attach one at either end of your awning throw the strap over the outside at the front slot into the ratchett mechanisam  and lash down that awning. Ive been thorough some heavy weather and never lost mine yet!

All the best Graham

I use a lorry rachet strap and two large (18") pegs if its windy. The guy ropes are used every time the awning is up.
