I have a dandy destiny and my awning is a bit tired, anyone selling one or has anyone given up with the heavy awning and tried other alternatives, that have worked, there must be other awnings out there that arent as heavy and work with the dandy, please let me know...
We have a Destiny too, we have an awning but as most of our trips during the year are weekends away (as many as we can manage!) we are looking to get a porch awning to use for weekends leaving the larger Dandy one for trips of a week or more. But we are also looking at possibly (at some time in the future!) replacing the Dandy one as they weren't made to fit the full length of Destiny's apparently and we'd like to make use of it all. I believe a new one from TVS is about £1000 or so? Was looking at the Lichfield awnings but I'm still not sure of the size we would need and don't want to make a mistake when ordering!
Have a look on the Dandy websites here or here. Will give you a few ideas to think about and a few new ones if you're anything like me!
Thankyou for all your help and advice will start looking, there must be someone out there who has an awning that they use other than the one supplied with the destiny, lets hope someone emails us then we will all know what to get!!
Oh just called tvs seems the best option they make up what you want colour schemes etc, he said about 800 and you need to take the caravan there for about 3wks, (although when the seasons finished then discount is given so maybe around 700) so thought i would share this info.
Hi Donna, We have a 2004 Destiny and were able to purchase the prototype acrilic awning (ie first one made for destiny). The supplier was not happy with the method of attaching the awning to the body and sent the awning and camper roof away to have a zip installed. I have no idea what it was like before!
The awning poles hook into small plastic brackets which are attached to the side, just under the roof of the camper. (These brackets are obtainable from Towsure and most caravan shops). The awning is zipped to the underside of the roof from either end so that the edge of the roof covers the zip preventing rain from getting in.
I can see no reason why it would not be possible to buy a caravan awning and fit it to your camper using the same method. You would have to measure from the ground at the front up around the roof edge and to the ground at the back in order to determine the size of awning.
