Have recently sold our Fleetwood tourer and are now looking for a folding camper
Went to see a penine clubman today but as it hasn't been used for a couple of years it smells quite musty - seemed fine other than that. No damp or mildew etc
Any ideas on whether we could get rid of the smell if we bought it?
Don't want to end up with a stinky camper that we can't sleep in!
Thanks for any advice you can offer

I should have thought that a good airing and cleaning with a disinfectant should do the trick as long as like you say there were not any signs of mildew or mould on the canvas .

If you're going to clean the canvas use a proper canvas cleaner but you will need to reproof once you've cleaned , use a disinfectant solution on the surfaces inside (cupboards etc) , . You may find that once aired the smell in the canvas goes without cleaning it, leave it up for a couple of days if you have the space and let some fresh air blow around it.

Dont use any detergents on the canvas, just plain water, detergents will make it no longer waterproof.
A good airing will probably do the world of good, and you could hose down just with water. Sprinkle bicarb on the upholstery cushions and any carpets and leave overnight then vacuum off. Wash all the curtains etc as normal, and wipe down all other surfaces with a nice smelling disinfectant.
The first camper i bought was as you describe, and it was fine after a good clean and airing.
When we bought our Folding Camper it had a musty smell, could see no damp etc, turned out that one of the walls was rotten, we were lucky my Hubby is very handy and could do the work himself(took all of last summer) we had a quote from Pennine to do it, it was over £1000!
To check if the walls have damp press the walls starting at the bottom if they are hard/solid there fine. If they are soft and spongy there will be damp.
