Having just come back from our first camping holiday in a eurotent, courtesy of Trevornick, a fantastic park in Cornwall, we have now decided to invest in our own tent. We fancy the added space and 'luxury' of a trailer tent and are going to look at some on Saturday, but I would apprciate some advice in advance if you can help. We are a family of 4, two adults and two children (11 & nearly 8). This might sound really silly to seasoned campers, but how does the trailer balance and would it take a decent weight, lets say my hubby and I are of a generous build!! Also, do trailer tents come with the necessary electric hook-ups? Sorry if I sound pretty dim but we've all got to learn sometime!! Hopefully in years to come we'll be the seasoned pros!
'but how does the trailer balance and would it take a decent weight', - the beds, whcih are the fold out platforms are supported on telescopic legs, and yes they will take a decent weight, at least 25 stone each side - voice of experience!!
'Also, do trailer tents come with the necessary electric hook-ups' - unfortunatly not, you would need to purchase a hookup lead, however I do know of others hardwiring a connection to the trailer tent, but this would need to be done by a qualified electrician who understands this type of electrics.
We have a thirteen yr old girl and ten yr old boy, she sleeps on the other trailer bed, and he has his own little tent which we erect in the awning area - an experience for him which he loves.
Hope this answers your questions. We are now giving up the TT as the wife wants a caravan.....TT for sale if your interested!!
havent been here to long myself but i'll tel you what i know . when you unfold the tent the beds are on a board . attached under the board is a leg which swings down to touch the floor & keep the bed level . same applies to the other side . to level the tent itself you have struts that you wind or screw down . slap a level on the base of the tent & adjust the struts so that its level back to front & side to side . this is important as if you dont level it correctly the tent will pitch wrong . i think !
im just under 16 st (hey , its important ) & wifes wee slip of a thing . we've had 3 kids sleeping on the other bed & they're not small either & all seems well. i dont know of any tents that come with on board electrics , although being a newbee myself i could be wrong . it seems most people buy a hookup & use that . but please , buy one with a rcd . they cost between£ 60 to £80.its just not worth getting one without it
try looking on ebay under trailer tents . seem to be a few bargins there at the mo . at least youll get an idea of the second hand price . also a few of them seem to throw in all the goodies as well . fridge, porta loo ,hook ups . could save you a fortune
My kids are growing up now, so we also have a big tent as well as a TT, and we swap from one to the other, but until fairly recently, hubby and I slept on one of the beds, 2 girls on the other bed, and boys in an underbed tent each.
As the girls got older and stopped coming with us, boys moved up to use the bed, but now boys have a pup tent and hubby and I have a bed each (bliss!), or we use the 12 berth tent for the whole family. Only downside of this is having to unpack the TT each time in case we use the tent on the next outing *sigh*
