Hi everyone...

This is my first post on this site and i would appreciate any advice.

I'm a single dad of two energetic kids (3 & 7) and am looking for peoples opinions on which trailer tent is the easiest for one person to erect.

I'll probably be buying second hand so any pointers would be great.

Thanks in advance

We have a Camplet and I can just about do it on my own. Opening the 2 halves is the most difficult bit, you can get Camplets with a gas assisted piston which makes it very easy for one person to put up.

I am only 5ft5 and 10st and can manage it so if you are taller bigger stronger you wont have a problem.

Best of luck on getting one.

Have a look at folding campers instead, a lot easier to put up, and can be used without the awning if needbe.  They are a bit more expensive though.

I've had 3 Conway/Pennine folding campers that were easy enough to erect on my own. The awnings are "interesting" to put up entirely on your own - but even your 7 year old could probably hold a pole for you!

The Pennine Pathfidner I've got now is really easy as it's got gas struts on the beds so they fiold over easily. It's also got an inside toilet so I never need to put the awning up if I don;t want to!

I have a Comanche Montana and I can erect the cabin myself.   Need some help with awning. Trailer tents are NOT always harder to erect than folding campers. The cabin gives access to 2 bedrooms.   You should research individual models of what ever you decide on. There are serious differences from model to model so sweeping statements like "Folding campers are easier to erect than trailer tents" are less than helpful to a novice.

If you go to the search button at the top you should be able to obtain info ..type in

trailer tent v folding camper or folding camper v trailer tent

There have been a number of threads on here regading this and should bring up previous posts.

I made my previous comment re folding campers being easier, as in my opinion, when I had the folding campers I found I was able to put them up on my own, being the only adult available, with 3 children to keep an eye on at the same time.  I have also had trailer tents, and although I loved them, I found the folding campers easier.

Sorry Gerryatric if you thought it a sweeping statement and not helpful,it wasn't intended that way.

we have the camplet apollo lux, bought second hand from caperlands a few weeks ago. they are pretty  expensive but we like ours, although two of us put it up my hubby does all the lifting and pegging himself ( i just kind of stand around commenting and waiting to unpack lol!) plus its up pretty quick and kids can be "inside" quickly if raining/bored/trying to run away/etc (we have a toddler and sit her on one of the beds colouring in)

good luck x

Even the Pathfinder without the gas struts is easy. I have a b***ered shoulder and even I can put a Pathfinder up single-handed. (yes - I know I've not got it now but it is not bad to do)
All you need is a (VERY) lightweight three-step ally ladder from B & Q to reach up to fold the canvas over and back also to help with the awning. These steps weigh next to ****-all and are well within the payload.

I have a Inesca Tirol, so easy to erect just like a camplet it is pull over like a hood on a pramerected in no time.  As 2 double beds plenty of room in front and very comfy. Best of luck hope you get what you want.

It always rains on tents. Rainstorms will travel thousands of miles, against prevailing winds for the opportunity to rain on a tent.

Our fiesta can easily be erected by one. However putting up the awning really needs another pair of hands or huge patience!

I too would recommend a Pennine Folding camper. You may need the kids help for a few seconds whilst you put the main awning up but as for the main unit- a piece of cake on your own!

I would suggest you go to as many retailers around your area as possible you will then get a good idea of what you want/need.  There is plenty of choice out there.  Once you have decided on the style you want then look on ebay or preloved until you find one you like. Good luck in your search and may you have many happy camping experiances.  The kids will love it.

Highbridge caravans have a video showing you how to put up an awning (under generic I think) - have a look and see what you think.

Smaller trailer tents can be put up with one person but you usually need another pair of hands to hold the awning frame up but that applies to folding campers as well.

Transcampers are easy peasy.
