we went away for the first time last weekend in out conway royale and it took us about 3 hours to put it up!!!

what is the average time to get one of these things up?

i am not really looking forward to a 6 hour drive to cornwall then 3 hours of tent putting up.

please tell me it does get easier with practice

It does get easier with practice!    17

Seriously, I usually reckon to put my FCs up in under an hour on my own, (including awning) so you should be able to erect the Royale in a similar time (bit more pegging out, but I have toliets and wradrobes and things to erect in my current Pathfinderl).

I find being organised helps a lot. I'm just about getting the hang of the routine with the Pathfinder after a few times. Having pegs, mallets and the like handy makes a big difference.

Hubby and I can put up our Camargue in about one hour  from start to finish, including both undertents, the awning extension section and main awning but not the living area roof liners. (Which we don't use normally.) Mind you we've been practicing for a few years now. We are a well honed team! It took us twice that amount of time when we first used the TT, untill we went on a trip where we moved site nine times in seven weeks....

Tips....

1) Colour code all your poles so that you're not faffing about.

2) Take a small spirit level so you can level the trailer quickly and effectively

3) Work symmetrically when you're putting up the cabin ie one of you on each end, working round the pole set in mirror image putting the poles up one notch at a time, otherwise they'll jam.

4) Hang the underbed tents before you drop the cabin skirts.

5) Once the cabin canvas is down one of you get inside the cabin and guide the pegging out person so that the four corners go out square and a good distance from the bedboards. (The front corners don't need to be clear of the bedboards at the awning edge if using the awning.)

6) Once the awning is up and pegged at the corner one person can continue to peg out while the other goes in and does the cabin liners, groundsheet, curtains etc. Take two mallets so that the inside person can peg out the front of the cabin as well. Remember all doors need to be closed while pegging out.

7) We don't usually put our sun canopy up till all else is sorted, or leave it till the next day. This takes another ten minutes or so.

Finally, the instructions are actually pretty good as to method of erection. We bought the Camargue from a friend who had owned it for several years and who gave us the advice "Put it up the way they say". Hubby was convinced that he could find a better way and our first half dozen trips were...well, full of arguements and the TT looked dreadful, plus it took longer! Now we do things as per the instructions and we always erect it in exactly the same way every time, so we always know exactly what the other person is doing and what's coming next.

In other words,. practice and you'll get faster, I promise!

it took me three and a half hours the first time then only one and a half the second now down to just over an hour on my own so it does get easier and it does help have your poles colour coded and mine are in different bags so easy lol

It takes us 25 mins for our cardinal hardtop - start to finish kettle on!! but then I suppose we could be accused of cheating cos we wind ours up, pull beds out, sink etc up, kettle on and bobs your uncle.

takes me about an hour from arrival to kettle on with 1 other person. Been practising since I was 12 though, (I'm not saying how old I am but it's a long time!)

My top tip is this:
So long as it isn't raining or windy, just 'jury rig' the TT at first. In other words, put in a peg at each corner and get it standing up.
Then have a cup of tea.
Then go round and do the rest of the pegs. Its amazing how much better you feel if you are just 'tweaking' an already erected tent rather than struggling with seemingly endless reams of canvas for 3 hours!
