Hi everyone, just registered as a member, think this site is excellent.

Can anyone advise on which tt to buy - the sunncamp 400se seems very good value - is there a catch ?  Also, my wife insists on a toilet and electric hook up to enabe us to use a fridge/coolbox). Is this a problem with a trailer tent ?  Do the camp sites allow trailer tents on the hook ups (i thought they were just for caravans)

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Welcome to the site.   there are many posts on this site asking the same question as you have. the main advice is go and see the different types erected at a display showroom near you.

You will spot one that you like and is within your budget so go for it.  All have their champions and all are very good just go for the one you like.

Using a hook up is not exclusive to caravans we used ours when we had a tent prior to our tt.  As long as you pay the money for the hook up you've as much right as anyone else to use it.

Thanks for the advice,

With regards to hook ups, is there ever a problem with pegging out as i have noticed that the hook up areas are sometimes on hard ground etc

Gazz

We are in same position as you, we are just thinking of buying a TT.  We went to Mitchells in Wakefield (don't know where you are) and looked at Cabanons and Conways, we particularly liked the Conway Classic Trio, very nice big TT.  We have now come home to save up.

We are also trying to find out as much as possible in advance of buying, ie info about hook ups and such.  We've only camped in a pre-erected eurotent, so done it the easy way.

I'm sure when you go and have a look (most showrooms are very helpful) you will find a model you particularly like.  Try looking at some of the websites of dealers and asking for brochures, that's what we did, although we only really had the one dealer nearby and that was 70 miles away!!

Good luck with your searching.

Hi gaz55

Welcome to UKCS.

Where you see a hard standing it doesn't necessarily mean it's 'hard'.  It's there to provide a flat, drained surface that is easy for the vehicle to roll on and off of.

Since I have a small 'van I have often put my awning up across a hard standing and so I carry a dozen hard pegs to enable me to peg it down.  You can always arrange your outfit so that the trailer sits on the hard standing with the rest of the canvas pegged out over the grass.

In any event go for it and enjoy . . . . . .

Never had any problems pegging out.  I think you are looking at the hard standings on sites which are used by Caravans and Motor Homes.

We've always been given a pitch on grass because the tt has to be pegged. It is always worth looking at what units a site accepts as occasionally there are some unit types not allowed by the owners.

Hi Gazz,

Welcome to the site, up until June of this year we had a Sunncamp tt and always used it with electric hook up and have errected it on hard standing although we did have good pegs. I must say thay we found the canvas rather thin having previousley owning a Raclet Tent, so I would surguest you have a good look round before buying and get one with a good heavy canvas. We also used a fridge while we was away plus kettle, lights, tv on occassions. You can often pick up second hand fridges and hook up leads if you want to save money I also notice that there are often very good second hand folding campers advertised on this site, if I hand found this site before we purchased ours from the dealer thats what we would of done. Happy hunting

I've just joined this site but I'd like to help you out over the Sunncamp Holiday 400SE. We've had ours just over 18 months now and it's been a great asset to us, mind you there have been a few teething troubles but we've sourted most of those out by now.

The tent comes with two double bedrooms, Kitchen unit (double burner & grill, sink and storage areas) 4 metre awning, which can be setup as a single complete area, spllit in half as a living area and sun-canopy or as single area with a quarter-size porch area. There are a complete set of roof linings and a divider curtain for the kitchen/ toliet/ wardrobe area.

The main bug-bear has been the quality of some of the plastics used in manufacturing of this trailer tent. We've replaced most of the end-pieces to the poles over the last 18 months with others which are much stronger. Also the plastic ends of the jack-screws on the corner- steadies,  are prone to slipping around the thread, so getting a solid footing can sometimes be a bit of a problem.

Other than that the tent has been through both last years brilliant summer and this years lousy summer with no major problems. It has coped with the hottest day of the year during  last august, and with the option to have a half length sun-canopy was nice and cool to sit in.

This week, we've just got back from a weeks holiday on a site near Battle, Sussex. On the first two days we had nearly constant rain and not a drop got in anywhere through the canvas.

We have purchased a mains hook up for our tent with a RCD on it and we were hooked up to the mains for the entire week. Fridge and all our lighting was run off the mains , as well as a radio and 5 inch t.v. ( these were just for the weather forcast, honest)
