hi, im looking at getting a small fridge for my folding camper.. but ive noticed some coolboxes have claims to keep food cold for 3-5days which would probably do me .. does anyone have any experience with them to know wether the claims are true or just hype? thanks
There's a lot of information about cool boxes in the Equipment thread. I've just paid out £40 for a small one which hasn't arrived yet! Too late for this year, then.
All my family have purchased the small cool box size fridges from Aldi and must admit they are superb (especially at about £30)
The great bit about them is they have both 12v cigar cable and a 240v cable and plug in them so we plug them in at home to cool down, then transfer the stuff from the fridge. When we ar eready to go we simply plug it in the 12v socket in the car.
We've kept all food in them and they work extremely well even in 35+ celsius
Hi , we purchased an igloo cold max and have used it twice with excellent results, I was surprised hoe good it performed giving us cold food and drink for upto 5 days.
thanks to all for replies, buttie how big is the cold max, what do they cost and at 5 days is ya beer cold enough ,+butter not melting etc? thanks glenn
We have used 2 types of cool box, one with motor 12-240v & one without, at the moment we use the one with.I find the trick is, is to freeze a large plastic sandwich box, put that in the base.We then pre pack & freeze meals that we intend to eat, curry, spag bol, chilli, roast beef etc, put them at the bottom then put chilled food on top, finishing off with butter, salads, eggs, etc.As things thaw out thats what you eat, if the weather is hot we run the fridge for a couple of hours, if you are on electric run it as long as you like.It works for us the food has kept well no dicky stomach.
oh i been thinking of a 12v system for me Dandy FC.
Buy a 100AH leasure battery and a solar power generator say min 100 wat. and rig a coolbox to run off 12 v while at meet Rallies that we have no ehu at.
A lot depends where you intend to use it ...
On the continent, where summer temperatures are much higher ... they are not very effective.
In any conditions, most tend to produce quite a lot of water/damp ...
We found that a cheap (£78) table top fridge was much more efficient and even offers a small icebox/freezer.
Of course the fridge is no use whilst in transit ...
