Hello everyone

I would like to upgrade from a trailer tent to a folding camper,

but i have a vauxhall corsa 1.5 diesel, not sure of the towing limit.

new corsas are about 900kg, so i am looking for advice on which camper i can o for.

it will be an older model, ie conway, starcraft etc.

there is a starcraft on ebay we like but not sure of the weight so any advice would be great.

Check out the weights of folders on thepenninegroup.co.uk

You can tow 85% of your car's weight.

The starcrafts are very heavy.  Do a search on here as I am sure that they have been mentioned before.

Hi Roger,

According to a caravan manual that my husband has, it advised that your Corsa could tow a maximum weight of 700kgs gross.  This is keeping in line with what they call 'the 85% rule', (which Rizzo mentions above), i.e. the towed unit must not exceed 85% of the weight of the car.

To give you an idea of the weight of one folding camper, our Conway Cruiser weighs 750kgs gross - but do these people know how much I can get in it!!  We tow with a 1.8 TDi Escort estate which pulls the Cruiser comfortably.

Hope this helps.

Sandy.

Hi Roger

We have a Rover 25 1.4 and pull a pennine fiesta comfortably, we have noted the cars consumption of fuel and there is no difference although, all the clothes, tv etc are stored in the car boot/roofbox.  Have just come back from North Yorkshire and encountered some quite steep hills and were surprised how well it did pull it.

Hope this helps

you can actually tow upto the maxium that your car  manafacture allows, the 85% rule is a guidline for novice towers, saying that i would reccomend you do not exceed more than 90% even if experienced tower as you dont wont the tail to wag the dog
