since recently changing my vehicle i have noticed that my cabanon stratos TT suffers from side to side sway. its not horendous but very off putting!!

i was thinking of fitting a stabiliser with security locking device (AL-KO for instance) but i am unsure if its either a good or bad idea to or if there is one that fits?

any help is appreciated.

I can't comment specifically on the Cabanon as I've got a Pennine, but a few thoughts.

Is the noseweight OK for the car? If your new car has a significantly lower noseweight allowance than the old one you probably need to check you're not overloading it.

When I changed up to the Pathfinder I did have a similar issue. As you suggest it was enough to be off-putting. I fitted an Alko hitch stabiliser (the AKS1300) with the proper security device - I got the whole kit at a good price from my lcoal dealer. It's certainly cured the problem, and I was quite glad of it yesterday on the A14 with a very strong side wind. Fitting isn't difficult, but was a bit of a fiddle - probably took me an hour or so.

Don't forget to change the towball for the supplied one as well if you do go that route.

ive up rated to a nissan navara so nose weight should not be a problem. i wonder if its to do with the higher towball height.

just need to find one that fits now.

it sounds like you ve found the problem your tt is probably tilting backwards therefore it is not  balanced correctly  you can make up a flat plate yourself which will give you an adjustable tow ball height a friend of mine  had to do this have a look at some other big vehicles then you will see what i mean

You can't make your own drop plates any more.  You have to buy a Type Approved one from the dealers.  They are only available for the larger 4 x 4s, as an ordinary saloon shouldn't need one.

I agree that the problem is caused by a nose up attitude.  Just one other thing - is the Navara fitted with leaf springs on the back rather than coils.  Towing with leaf springs certainly feels different, but should not be a problem.
