oh dear! what a trip..... trailer came off towbar, brakeaway cable workeds fine but now is no longer connected to camper.  What do I do???  Is it hard to fix and where do I fix it to exactly?

There should be an eye on the underside of the brake handle. You may need a toggle to fix the new cable to the brake handle.

first thing would be to find out why it came off the tow ball,

to replace the cable is normally an easy job as said above, please put a new one on.

I know why it came off thankfully and is unlikely to happen again.

It came off because you didn't close down the handle didn't it. Done it myself - distracted while hitching up - drove off and it came off leaving a scar in the road which is still there to remind me outside our house.

The cable must be replaced to comply with regs and avoid possible insurance issues in the event of an incident. 

I have also driven away from caravan without undoing the cable!
